Chapter 820: Survivors
The sun was no longer visible beyond the platform. Only its afterglow lit up part of the horizon, while a nearly full moon hung high overhead. Night was drawing closer.
"What—why are there so many? We're dead."
Zhou Shuigen, the Feng Shui Master beside Li Bai, held a flashlight in one hand and a dagger in the other. As he watched the beasts roaming around, his legs trembled uncontrollably.
He didn't think his flesh and blood could be much sturdier than the archaeological team's exploration robots. Those sharp, knife-like claws looked terrifying. He probably wouldn't survive more than a few swipes.
Everyone else reacted much the same way. They were all frightened, and even the two police officers looked grim. Between them, they had only fifty or sixty bullets. Even if they hit every shot, they could only kill half the beasts.
An empty pistol was less threatening than a flashlight.
At that moment, the two officers desperately wished they had a machine gun. Even just one would have been nice.
The number of small beasts chasing the missing people was staggering. It seemed like the entire pack had come out.
The mountain and the underground plain were full of all kinds of bugs. These beasts had suddenly spotted two humans—two big chunks of meat—so it was no wonder they were ravenous.
"This is bad! There are so many!"
Jiang Yue, the archaeological team's teaching assistant, had gone deathly pale. He nearly dropped the flashlight and dagger in his hands.
Faced with so many vicious little beasts, even Iron Man probably wouldn't survive, right?
This place could very well become the burial ground for the entire rescue team.
At a time like this, tactical flashlights and self-defense daggers couldn't compare to the solid-steel pry bar in Li
