Like other villages, the one where Xu Wensheng lived had most of its young people working elsewhere. Those who remained were either old or young, with very few able-bodied adults around.

The whole village suddenly became lively, but hardly anyone came out to see what was going on.

Xu Wensheng had carried his son, Little Tiger, up onto the yellow-earth stage at the village entrance. Now he sat sprawled on it, panting heavily.

The geese clearly couldn't get up there, and their necks couldn't reach. Even the big, sturdy domestic birds couldn't fly up, no matter how hard they flapped their wings. All they could do was crowd around the foot of the mound and honk nonstop.

Translated into human speech, they were probably saying something like, "You little punk, get down here! We'll beat the crap out of you!"

"Hey, you! Yeah, you! If you've got the guts, come down and fight us one-on-one. We'll take you on one at a time—or you can fight all of us at once."

"You, yeah, you! We're not leaving today. Just you wait—we'll beat you to a pulp!"

When geese, those big domestic birds, got stubborn, they were every bit as bad as donkeys.

"W-what the hell is going on?"

Xu Wensheng was nearly scared out of his wits. Now that the geese had set their sights on him, he and his son were probably going to die horribly.

In his father's arms, Little Tiger stared in amazement and said admiringly, "Dad, you're amazing!"

He'd leaped straight onto a mound more than a meter high, carrying someone with him. He was just like the Martial Arts Masters in movies and TV dramas.

Xu Wensheng said irritably, "Amazing my ass!"

If he hadn't reacted quickly, those geese might have finished
