Because Bai Su had humbly said she "knew a thing or two," Gu Chi hadn't asked further out of curiosity. He'd simply assumed she really did know a little.
Gu Chi also had to make a trip to the camp, so he went with Bai Su.
They had barely stepped through the camp gates when the sound of hoofbeats approached. Looking over, they saw Zhao Feng returning from outside the city, followed by more than a hundred soldiers jogging in formation. Earlier, he had taken his men out of the city to inspect the surrounding fields.
Zhao Feng had obviously noticed them too.
As he drew near, he pulled the reins tight.
"Mr. Gu, what brings you here?"
Zhao Feng swung down from his horse. When his gaze shifted to Bai Su, his pupils suddenly contracted. She had only just formed her Martial Spirit, and the martial energy around her was still escaping; she couldn't yet rein it in perfectly. For a moment, Zhao Feng forgot Gu Chi was there. He raised a hand to rub his eyes, then opened them again.
Good heavens, he hadn't been seeing things!
One look at Zhao Feng's expression told Gu Chi what the problem was.
He smiled and smoothly changed the subject. "I'm here to take care of something. Da Yi, why the look? Do you think I'm the sort to shirk my duties and loaf about, wandering outside all day?"
He blamed Zhao Feng's strange reaction on himself.
Zhao Feng looked at Gu Chi, then at Bai Su. Seeing that Gu Chi showed no surprise at all, he pointed vaguely at Bai Su and opened his mouth, then stopped himself. Gu Chi didn't deliberately keep him in suspense. Following the direction of Zhao Feng's finger, he finally acted as if he understood.
