"Was that thunder?"
Rumble—rumble—
Explosions boomed overhead one after another. The noise reached the ears of many soldiers, who mistook it for thunder. Just as they were about to look up, a dark mass came hurtling down from the sky. Fragments of all sizes landed in empty spaces, while others struck the temporary tents.
The tents collapsed.
The soldiers inside were out of luck. Some were crushed to a pulp in their sleep, unable even to scream. Others were a little luckier, suffering only crippling injuries. The agony jolted them awake, and their shrill cries rose and fell all around.
"Is that a Calamity Star?"
A meteor from beyond the heavens had struck their camp?
The soldiers caught in the attack lost their heads.
If it really was a Calamity Star, then even Heaven's will was against them. What good could come of defying Heaven? Before the soldiers could spread the rumor, a military officer stepped forward to make an example of someone and cow the rest with an iron fist. Furious, he drew on his Dantian and used his martial power to send his voice a hundred zhang in every direction. "What Calamity Star? This is clearly an enemy attack! Anyone spreading lies will be executed without mercy!"
The enemy had made it all the way above their heads to wreak havoc!
The officer quickly brought the situation under control, his temper boiling inside.
Were all those scouts just eating without earning their keep? And the guards assigned to patrol the camp tonight were useless, too. Several scout teams had mysteriously vanished from the front lines, clearly meeting with disaster, and they'd still dared to let their guard down—allowing the enemy to sneak in! Useless!
