Gongxi Chou didn't understand. Gongxi Chou was confused.
Gongxi Chou had been forced to attend a training lecture, but he hadn't even warmed his seat before he wanted to get up and skip class. Unfortunately, a hand pressed down on his shoulder, forcing him to keep sitting there, cozying up to his seat cushion. He didn't even need to look up to know who it was. "All this highfalutin stuff is useless. You win battles and kill people with weapons, not by talking them to death."
Wasn't warfare always the same old thing?
Naval battles couldn't be all that different from land battles, surely.
If there hadn't been so many people around, Gongxi Chou would've swallowed his pride and begged Shen Tang to let him off. He was happy to throw himself into a fight, and would rather come away drenched in sweat and covered in wounds. Sitting here with a bamboo slip in his hands, listening to a lecture, was like being slowly murdered.
Shen Tang was unmoved and rejected Gongxi Chou's request.
"Why won't you let me go?" Gongxi Chou asked.
Shen Tang drew several sloppy circles on the little blackboard. Pointing to them, she said, "Suppose each circle is a warship. If the enemy general launches a surprise attack right now, where would you fight them?"
Gongxi Chou blinked in confusion. "Does it matter where?"
Wasn't he supposed to charge straight in?
"If you don't care where you fight, won't you end up harming your own people?" Shen Tang countered.
Naval warfare was nothing like land warfare.
Whether a land battle was won or lost, soldiers could swarm in from all directions. Except for the occasional unlucky soul who stepped in a hole and sprained an ankle, the rest didn't need to worry about where they set
