The city walls were dilapidated, the streets desolate, and the buildings still bore the charred marks left by a raging fire. It was as if this were a dead city, devoid of all human life. Shen Tang rode her Motorcycle into town and saw exactly this scene. After traveling for a long while, she finally spotted a few curled-up figures huddled among the ruins, rummaging for something. She swung off her Motorcycle and strode toward one of them without hesitation, intending to get a closer look.

"My lord—"

Xun Ding watched Shen Tang with a tense expression.

Shen Tang waved to show him there was no need to be so nervous.

"I'm fine. Just taking a look."

If there were anything in the city capable of threatening her life, it wouldn't have fallen in less than half a day. Shen Tang braced both hands on her knees, bent down, and leaned toward the old woman. The weather had yet to warm up fully, and the old woman wore only a thin padded jacket. Its outer layer was worn through, and there wasn't even any reed stuffing left inside. The exposed skin was covered in chilblains, some of which had cracked open and begun to ooze pus.

"Old woman, what are you doing?"

The old woman was advanced in age, and her hearing wasn't very good.

Shen Tang asked three times in a row, but the other woman showed no reaction. Her scrawny body, little more than a bundle of bones, trembled in the cold wind. Shen Tang took off her outer robe and draped it over the old woman. Only then did the other woman notice her and turn her head around, trembling.
