Asterisk, Outer Residential Area.
As its name suggested, this was the area located along Asterisk's outskirts.
Unlike the City District, which was lined with pedestrian walkways everywhere to better accommodate tourists, the Outer Residential Area had many broad roads that ran across the entire Artificial Island. Rising and falling in endless succession, they resembled aerial corridors.
Even though it was already late at night, the Outer Residential Area remained brilliantly lit. Streetlights stood along every broad road, illuminating the surroundings and the towering high-rises in the distance.
Atop one of those high-rises, on the rooftop of its highest floor, a figure stood against the wind at the edge.
"That's high."
Standing beyond the railing on the edge of the building, where one more step would send him plummeting, Azer voiced that thought.
He was not wearing Seidoukan Academy's student uniform. Instead, he wore an all-black casual outfit of unknown origin. From his shirt and pants to his shoes, even the hooded cloak draped over him, everything was black enough to blend into the night.
Azer also wore a mask that covered the upper half of his face while leaving his mouth exposed. It resembled the sort used at masquerades, designed more for appearance and extravagance than any practical purpose.
But for Azer at this moment, that level of disguise was enough.
"If it were before, I definitely wouldn't have dared stand somewhere this dangerous, right?"
Looking at the ground dozens of meters below, Azer felt as though he were standing on the edge of a cliff.
He had actually been a little afraid of heights. Yet perhaps because he now possessed power beyond humanity, Azer realized that his acrophobia had somehow vanished after standing at such a height.
