After reading through Ye Chen's information, it wasn't hard to see that there were traces of other civilizations behind him.
He Xi didn't think much of it, though. After all, the universe was vast—countless aerospace civilizations had emerged over the past tens of thousands of years, let alone those born even earlier. For someone as lucky as Ye Chen to inherit the legacy of some fallen aerospace civilization was perfectly normal.
"Tsk tsk, this little guy's got some skills. Especially that silver tongue of his—it's really something. Mm, and his brainwashing ability isn't any worse than yours either, you tomboy."
With that, He Xi couldn't help but tease Keisha as she looked at her.
Keisha's face darkened a bit at those words. "Oh, screw you. I don't brainwash people. That's all my personal charisma."
"Sure, sure, it's all your personal charisma. After all, you are the Queen of the Gods."
Saying this, He Xi grinned and wrapped an arm around Keisha's slender waist, still teasing her.
Feeling the hand on her waist, a flicker of something unusual passed through Keisha's eyes. Then she swatted He Xi's hand away in annoyance.
"You old hag, you're not thinking about men, are you?"
Seeing that brief, strange look in Keisha's eyes, He Xi felt a surge of amusement.
She messed around with Keisha a bit more, then noticed something off about her.
At this point, He Xi started to wonder if Keisha's orientation had shifted from spending too much time together.
The thought startled even her.
After all, they were best friends—how could feelings like that develop between them?
And they were the queens of the Angel Civilization. If something like that actually happened, the trouble would be enormous.
What would the younger angels think of them if they found out?
So she made up her mind to cut back on these kinds of intimate gestures with Keisha from now on, to keep any improper thoughts from taking root.
She would nip that budding spark in the bud before it could grow.
Right now, she was just heartless, playful Pi Pi Xi.
Just then, Keisha finally suppressed the strange feeling inside her. Seeing He Xi staring at her with an odd expression, her eyes darted away a little.
"Why are you looking at me so weirdly all of a sudden? Is there something on my face?"
"Nothing. Tea, have some tea."
Seeing Keisha like this, He Xi felt more certain of her earlier guess. Otherwise, why would she be acting so guilty?
But for now, she'd just wait and see.
The two of them sat on the grass, letting the breeze brush past them as they enjoyed the blue sky, white clouds, and fluttering butterflies. It all looked very peaceful.
But neither of their hearts were as calm as before.
"Tom boy, what do we do about A Zhui?"
Hearing this, Keisha looked at the scene before her and thought for a moment. "A Zhui has already sworn the Guardian Angel Oath to that little guy. At this point, what else can we do but let it be? But that kid's not honest either—daring to trick A Zhui like that. And he didn't even let me, the Matriarch, know. Even if it's already a done deal, we can't just let him off. He needs a little punishment, to make him understand that deceiving an angel comes with consequences."
He Xi nodded in agreement with Keisha's words.
After all, Ye Chen really had acted improperly in this matter. If A Zhui were a retired angel, Keisha wouldn't have a say. But right now, A Zhui was an active-duty Battle Angel.
If Keisha, as the Matriarch, did nothing after A Zhui was tricked into swearing the Guardian Angel Oath, where would her authority be?
More importantly, Keisha had to prevent similar incidents in the future. She knew that while the younger angels under her command were strong, they were too naive. Add in their tendency to get love-struck, and the moment romance came up, their intelligence seemed to drop. They simply couldn't compete with mortals.
Wasn't that exactly what happened with Qing Qing in the original story? She abandoned her post to secretly date a mortal and ended up marrying him.
And anyone who believed that was all due to the mortal's personal charm was fooling themselves.
The little angels were fine in every other aspect, but their love-struck nature was unbearable. Especially since they all clung stubbornly to whatever they believed, never regretting it even unto death.
Time passed slowly. Keisha and He Xi sat in the soft sunlight, chatting about everything under the sun, their figures gradually overlapping.
"Old hag, what do you say we fake our deaths and retire? I'm tired. I want to rest. And the Angel Civilization has already run into problems. Maybe it's time for a new queen to take over, to restore order or let the civilization break and rebuild."
Staring at the distant blue sky, Keisha seemed to have made up her mind as she spoke.
She had long noticed the problems within the Angel Civilization. She had thought about changing things, and for years, she had never stopped using the celestial computer to simulate the future.
The future it showed her was always the same: the old queen steps down, a new queen ascends, order is restored, or the civilization breaks and rebuilds.
But she had never been able to make that decision.
Now, though, the strange feeling that had stirred in her heart earlier pushed her to finally decide.
And it had been thirty thousand years since the chaotic, corrupt Heavenly Palace Era. Her era should come to an end.
Besides, just as she had said, she was tired.
Hearing Keisha's words, He Xi showed no surprise, simply saying, "Since you've made up your mind, then go ahead and do it."
"After all, the Angel Civilization of today is no longer our era."
"The comrades we once fought alongside are either dead or retired. Now, this vast civilization is left with just the two of us old-timers."
"Truth be told, if it weren't for keeping you company, I might have retired ten thousand years ago."
"Heh, you old witch, sounds like you've had designs on me for a long time now."
Hearing this, Keisha's heart stirred, and she couldn't help teasing.
"Get lost, that's pure friendship, pure friendship—don't twist it."
At that moment, He Xi was like an irritated little wildcat, glaring with her blue eyes as she emphasized again.
"Fine, fine, it's pure friendship, alright." Seeing He Xi like this, Keisha couldn't help but crack a faint smile.
Only then did HeXi let it go.
Time flowed on, and after who knew how long, Keisha gazed at the blue sky and white clouds on the horizon, speaking softly.
"He Xi, thank you for all you've given me over these many years."
"You know it well enough. So, have you thought about where we'll go play after your fake death?"
"Not yet. We'll just wander around casually."
"After all, the universe is so vast. We'll stop somewhere, stay for a few decades, and when we get bored, move on. By the time we've had our fill of fun, millions of years will have passed."
"That works too. These past tens of thousands of years stuck in the lab every day—honestly, I've long grown tired of it."
As for where to go after retirement, He Xi didn't care, because in her view, as long as Keisha was by her side, nowhere would be boring.
The two sat on the grass, chatting about everything under the sun, painting a picture of a beautiful future life.
