Background / History

Mu Ningxue was born into the Bocheng Mu Clan as Mu Zhuoyun’s daughter. Due to her status, she had almost no friends her own age and longed for companionship. As a child, she befriended Dongfang Chen, asking him to remain with her forever after they spent a night playing games together. 2

Her mother’s history is tied to the Ice Crystal Bow. Mu Yinfeng, driven by jealousy, crippled her mother’s cultivation and extracted the Bow from her; her mother later died of grief. Mu Ningxue regards the Bow fragment within her as one of her only remaining connections to her mother and chose to retain it despite its effects on her personality. 4 156

She self-awakened her Ice Element and enrolled directly at the Imperial Capital Magic Academy. The Ice Crystal Bow fragments made her increasingly cold and detached toward others, though she remained affectionate with Dongfang Chen. She asked him to help preserve her sense of self as the Bow’s influence grew. 4

Mu Ningxue and Dongfang Chen were betrothed from childhood. Their engagement was later publicly announced by Mu Zhuoyun as part of an alliance between the Mu and Dongfang families. 8 18

Mu Ningxue agreed to a graduation duel with Dongfang Chen: if she won, he would attend the Imperial Capital Magic Academy with her; if she lost, she would wear an outfit chosen by him.
