Small Mountain Village.
Li Fan walked with Ziling and Nan Feng toward the village entrance.
When they reached it, Li Fan looked toward the mountains and froze.
Nan Feng and Ziling stared at the scene ahead, utterly dumbfounded.
At a glance, countless mountains had collapsed, and the earth was split with cracks. It looked as if a terrible disaster had struck!
The forests had been flattened, and rocks littered the ground. A faint stench of blood hung in the air. Clearly, this had been a great calamity, and who knew how many creatures had perished in it.
"Heavens, what on earth happened? Did the Deities send down heavenly punishment? How else could there be such terrifying power..."
Nan Feng murmured.
"It's so terrifying. Thank goodness, thank goodness we were in Small Mountain Village. Otherwise, we might have died the moment the disaster struck!"
Ziling's wide eyes were filled with lingering fear.
At that moment, they suddenly understood why they had run into Li Fan that day, and why he had brought them back here.
He had foreseen that this disaster was about to happen and saved their lives!
"Big Sister, with such a huge disaster, why didn't we sense a thing last night..."
Ziling was also full of questions.
Nan Feng, however, looked at Li Fan with a complicated expression and said, "With Teacher here, even a Heavenly Calamity wouldn't dare approach the place where he lives!"
"Didn't you notice? For thousands of miles around, this is the only place that still looks exactly as it did before. It's as if nothing happened. The villagers slept soundly all night and have no idea what took place outside."
"Teacher just lives here... and that alone is enough to keep the Heavenly Calamity at bay!"
Ziling's little mouth fell open.
They gazed at Li Fan with such reverence!
This was the mark of an unparalleled master. He remained utterly calm and didn't need to lift a finger, yet no calamity could come near him.
"Just imagine. Last night, these rare and strange beasts must have sensed that this was the only safe haven, so they tried to charge in and take shelter."
"But without Senior Li's permission, these ferocious beasts—terrifying enough to make even Supremes tremble—couldn't take a single step into the village. They were killed outside."
Nan Feng looked at the piles of beast and bird carcasses a few hundred meters from the village!
Rare beasts lay piled up like mountains. Just one look was enough to shake anyone to the core.
There was a giant tortoise as big as a house, its shell unbelievably hard and covered with all sorts of patterns.
There were two enormous blue birds, their wings wide enough for dozens of people to stand on. Every feather was like an iron fan.
There were also several four-legged beasts as huge as elephants, their hides thick as walls...
All kinds of spirit beasts they had never seen before now lay dead nearby.
It was as if some terrifying presence had driven them toward the village, where they had perished just outside it.
"These beasts are a rare sight. They must be delicious."
"Delicious, my foot! You can't even cut this meat with a knife. I bet it won't cook through, either."
"We've ruined several of our steel knives trying. Good thing Xiao Li made us a few kitchen knives. They really do the job!"
The villagers surrounded the beasts and set about cutting them up.
For villagers, hunting was simply one way to get the necessities of life. Now so many beasts had died here in the earthquake; it was truly a gift from heaven.
Even the ones that didn't look edible could be cut up and put aside for later.
"Keep at it, everyone! Cut off all this good meat and dry it into cured meat. It'll be enough to last us until next year!"
Someone shouted loudly.
"This is... this is too brutal. Mammoth Beasts, Great Azure Pengs, Three Yuan Turtles... These are all spirit beasts of Sub-Supreme level! And now they're going to cut them up and dry them into cured meat?"
Hearing the shout, Ziling could hardly believe it!
Any one of these ferocious beasts could stir up a storm of bloodshed if it appeared outside. They were invincible unless a Supreme intervened.
And now they were going to become food for a bunch of villagers? Who would believe that if they heard it...
"It's all because of Teacher!"
Nan Feng said gravely.
The two of them gazed at Li Fan's back.
But at that moment, Li Fan was fretting.
Damn it... Why did there have to be an earthquake?
Thank goodness, thank goodness the little village he was in had somehow escaped the disaster!
Thank heavens.
But looking at things, if there was another aftershock or something, this place might not escape disaster either.
He'd have to move somewhere safer...
But damn it, living here in the first place had been a system task.
What a damn trap.
"Xiao Li, you've seen a lot. What do you think happened? Will we be all right here?"
An old villager asked Li Fan.
After seeing the destruction outside, the villagers couldn't help feeling afraid.
Li Fan thought for a moment, then shook his head. "There's no need to worry. This place is safe."
Since the system had told him to live here, it surely wasn't going to let him die here, right? Otherwise, what was the point?
So Li Fan believed there was nothing to worry about.
Hearing this, the villagers all breathed a little easier. Li Fan had a lot of authority among them.
"Teacher really is so calm!"
Nan Feng and Ziling admired him even more.
Just then.
A huge flying ship suddenly drew near from the sky!
"According to the Soul Lamps, Nan Feng and Ziling are somewhere around here!"
On the ship, Ao Ming and Zhu Xin spoke excitedly as they watched two flickering lamps.
Several old men followed behind them, their auras terrifying.
"Nan Feng, Ziling, come out and meet your deaths!"
They immediately roared down at the ground.
At the same time, the ship rapidly descended.
Ao Ming's roar reached the village below.
The villagers were astonished to see a flying ship coming down.
"A ship that flies?"
"Cultivators? Heavens, we mustn't provoke them!"
"We're finished. Why would cultivators come here?"
The villagers were all in a panic.
Nan Feng and Ziling's expressions changed.
"It's Ao Ming and the others!"
Nan Feng said quietly.
"What's going on?" Li Fan asked Nan Feng.
Nan Feng immediately replied, "Reporting to Teacher, we were originally from the Three Absolutes Holy Land. Our teacher, who taught us the Qin Dao and the Way of Painting, passed away not long ago. Before he died, he told us to come to this region in search of opportunity. But there are people in the sect who have always targeted us..."
"They've come here. I'm afraid they mean us harm..."
Li Fan looked puzzled. "Three Absolutes Holy Land? What's that?"
Nan Feng was taken aback. Senior Li didn't know about the Three Absolutes Holy Land?
But she quickly understood why. There could only be one reason Senior Li had never heard of the Three Absolutes Holy Land.
He had stayed out of worldly affairs for many years, so he simply didn't know a new Three Absolutes Holy Land had appeared.
After all, even if the Three Absolutes Holy Land was famous throughout the Profound Heaven Realm, it was still no more than an ant in Senior Li's eyes...
She carefully explained, "The Ancestor of our Holy Land excelled in music, the Way of Painting, and calligraphy, so he founded the Holy Land. Everyone there cultivates these three arts..."
She hardly dared to mention the name "Three Absolutes Immortal." Who would dare call themselves an "Absolute" in front of this senior? And what was an immortal, anyway?
Hearing this, Li Fan understood at once.
So it was just a sect made up of artsy types!
They made it sound so grand with "Holy Land," but it was pretty much like the music appreciation club or calligraphy association in the Small Courtyard from his previous life...
Since it was only that kind of organization, Li Fan was relieved.
Groups of hobbyists like that were usually easy to deal with. Besides, Li Fan was confident that few people could surpass him in music, calligraphy, or painting!
At worst, they could compete, and he could make them admit defeat.
With that, he stepped forward, ready to talk things over with them.
But as soon as he moved forward, before he could even speak, Ao Ming, Zhu Xin, and the group of experts on the flying ship all stared at the scene before them in stunned disbelief.
"Th-those things... Are those Three Yuan Turtles, Mammoth Beasts, and Great Azure Pengs...?"
Ao Ming was shocked as soon as he landed.
"No, the entire Cangli Mountain Range has collapsed. How is it that nothing here has even budged?"
Zhu Xin looked completely baffled.
Behind them, an old man with graying hair stared in shock at a peasant woman in front of him!
The woman was chopping at a Three Yuan Turtle's shell with a kitchen knife!
The shell split cleanly with a single strike!
Hiss!
The old man sucked in a cold breath. They were so far away, yet he could clearly sense the terrifying aura contained in that knife!
The Three Yuan Turtle's shell was said to be unbreakable even by a Supreme, yet beneath that knife, it was as flimsy as rotten tofu?
What kind of being was this?
"Quick, go! Go! There's a great terror here, a great terror!"
The old man shouted in panic, hastily activating the flying ship!
In an instant, the Imperial Sky Ship shot into the air, raced toward the sky, and vanished like a streak of light.
Li Fan had been stepping forward to speak, but now he was baffled.
Why did they run away?
