"Huh? Who's here...? And the trainer's phone..."
Hokubu Genkoma blinked in confusion.
Yasui Makoto glanced at the incoming call on his phone.
"I ordered delivery.
"A Uma Musume bestseller for you—the Sauce Carrot Steak Set.
"Will it suit your taste?"
Seeing Hokubu Genkoma nod blankly, then look a bit embarrassed and flustered, clearly uneasy about him paying, Yasui Makoto shook his head.
"If it's fine, go open the door. Don't keep them waiting."
"Well... okay."
As Hokubu Genkoma went to open the door with a sheepish look, Yasui Makoto turned back to the video playback and computer, ready to keep analyzing the data, when he suddenly heard a startled cry from the doorway.
"Huh—?! Oguri Cap-senpai?! And Aotake Omoide-senpai?!"
Hearing those two names, Yasui Makoto instinctively looked toward the door.
The door stood open. On the inside, Hokubu Genkoma stood with her tail bristling in surprise. Outside were two Uma Musume who seemed a bit startled by her reaction.
One had silver-gray long hair and light blue eyes, wearing a restaurant delivery uniform with the words "Gray Stable" on it, carrying a delivery box in her hands.
The other had short brown hair and cyan eyes, with a white headband tied around her head, the center of which bore the traditional character "Dream."
This brown-haired Uma Musume also wore a uniform—a police uniform, with her police cap held in her arms and a file folder tucked under her armpit.
"Good evening, you two. I'm Yasui Makoto. May I ask what this is about...?" Yasui Makoto walked toward the door.
Though he addressed both of them, his gaze was mainly fixed on Aotake Omoide, who was in her police uniform.
"See, Oguri-senpai? I told you I wouldn't lead us wrong."
With a smile to the silver-haired Uma Musume beside her, Aotake Omoide faced Yasui Makoto and saluted.
"Hello, Trainer Yasui. I'm Inspector Aotake, in charge of this area. Here's my badge."
After showing her police ID, she continued.
"Commissioned by President Tokai Teio, I've brought a settlement application from the driver involved in the previous accident case. I hope you'll take a look.
"As for this one..."
She pointed to the silver-haired Uma Musume beside her.
"Trainer Yasui has likely heard of my senior's reputation. She's... how should I put it..."
With a slightly amused expression, she hesitated.
The silver-haired Uma Musume spoke up, her expression cool.
"Sorry. Even though I've studied here for many years, I still don't know the roads well."
"There were a lot of delivery orders today, and I happened to be at the shop, so I helped out with some deliveries.
"But I got lost and wasted some time. My apologies."
She bowed deeply.
Aotake Omoide nodded with a wry, amused look and spread her hands.
"Yeah, that's about it.
"So, could you let her wait inside for a bit? I'll need to give her directions later.
"Trainer Yasui, rest assured—it won't take long. We'll leave once you've reviewed the settlement."
Hearing this, Yasui Makoto found it a little amusing himself.
He was quite familiar with both Uma Musume, especially the silver-haired one dressed for delivery.
With 32 career races and 22 wins, she was the Horse of the Year, a Hall of Famer, "The Gray Monster"—Oguri Cap.
Beyond that, she was also one of the investors in the chain restaurant "Gray Stable." He often saw her at the branch near the academy, as well as on many food programs.
Delivering food was probably just a whim for her, but since she came from the countryside and didn't wander much after transferring to Central Treisen Academy, she still seemed unaccustomed to a big city like Tokyo, often getting lost during deliveries.
She'd delivered here a few times before, always running late. She was simply too directionally challenged. That she'd arrived on time this time was undoubtedly thanks to Aotake Omoide's company.
Aotake Omoide was also an exceptionally skilled Uma Musume. Unlike Oguri Cap, who excelled at mile to middle distances, she specialized in sprints, earning the evaluation "First Generation King of the Sprint Front" in the specialized courses required for assessments.
"No problem at all. Please, come in."
Stepping back from the entrance to the living room and gesturing them inside, Yasui Makoto asked, "Would you two like some tea, or another drink—maybe milk?"
"No need to trouble yourself, Trainer Yasui. We'll be leaving soon."
With a smile and a wave to decline, Aotake Omoide pulled out a stack of documents from under her arm.
Glancing around, her gaze quickly settled on the TV, which was playing a race replay.
"Huh? Is that..."
"Daily Crown."
Opening the takeout box and setting two portions on the coffee table, Oguri Cap glanced at the TV.
"Should be the 64th edition."
"The 64th. As for the winner..."
Watching the eleven Uma Musume racing at full speed in the footage, Aotake Omoide's gaze quickly locked onto a figure with short black hair, and she uttered the same name as Oguri Cap.
"Eishin Flash."
Then, Aotake Omoide turned to look at the excited Hokubu Genkoma beside her, then at Yasui Makoto, and handed over the documents with a smile.
"Looks like Trainer Yasui is coaching this one...?"
"Ah! Sorry, I forgot to introduce myself!"
Hokubu Genkoma bowed quickly.
"My name is Hokubu Genkoma. Please take care of me, seniors!"
"Hokubu Genkoma... a freshman just enrolled this year? Still working hard after school, I like that, Hokubu Genkoma."
Seeing Hokubu Genkoma nod repeatedly, Aotake Omoide began surveying the room.
"But school rules don't allow students to stay overnight outside campus, let alone overnight at a trainer's single apartment.
"Please keep that in mind, Hokubu Genkoma."
With that, she gave a crisp smile.
"You probably already know that, sorry. I used to be a Disciplinary Committee Member back in the day, so I tend to be a bit particular about these things."
"It's fine, Aotake-senpai! And I'll head back after eating here!"
Hokubu Genkoma hurriedly said.
"Good."
Smiling and nodding, Aotake Omoide looked at Yasui Makoto.
Yasui Makoto had already finished reading the Settlement Agreement. Finding no issues, he signed it and, seeing Aotake Omoide's gaze, handed it over.
"This should be fine, right?"
Taking the agreement, she carefully reviewed it once, then bowed.
"No problems here. Thank you for your cooperation, Trainer Yasui. We'll take our leave now."
She turned to Oguri Cap.
"Oguri-senpai, let's go... What are you looking at, Oguri-senpai?"
"Nothing."
Shifting her gaze from the laptop and several sheets of data notes on the coffee table, Oguri Cap looked coldly at Hokubu Genkoma.
"Haven't decided on your Debut Race yet?"
"Y-yes! That's right, Oguri Cap-senpai!"
A little nervously, Hokubu Genkoma nodded repeatedly.
"Mm. Do your best."
Offering a faint smile, Oguri Cap walked toward the entrance with Aotake Omoide, waving at Hokubu Genkoma.
"Not being able to fully control your strength isn't that big a problem. My first few races were the same.
"And your trainer seems capable. With his help, your Debut Race will turn out well.
"Do your best."
