Halloween Eve Approaches

A week ago, Harry had already begun Quidditch training.

Although flying skill was the most important ability for a Quidditch player, knowing how to play Quidditch while flying was another matter entirely.

Not to mention coordination between players and various tactics, all of which needed to be developed through joint training.

Harry's training time had been scheduled for after seven every evening, minimizing its impact on his studies.

There were three types of balls in a Quidditch match, four in total.

The largest was called the Quaffle. Harry thought it was about the same size as a basketball, and throwing it through a hoop earned ten points. The slightly smaller Bludgers came in pairs and would attack and ram the nearest Quidditch player. The smallest was the Golden Snitch, roughly the size of a walnut. It was entirely golden and had a pair of long wings as thin as cicada wings. Catching it earned one hundred and fifty points and ended the match.

Each side had seven players.

One Keeper guarded the hoops, which were the equivalent of basketball baskets, preventing the other side from scoring with the Quaffle.

Two Beaters flew about the sky, hitting the dangerous Bludgers toward the opposing players.

Three Chasers aimed to throw the Quaffle through the opposing hoops and score points.

One Seeker had what could be called the most important task: finding the fastest Golden Snitch and catching it before the opposing Seeker did.

Fortunately, Harry was the team's only Seeker. So even if the rules were somewhat tedious, he only needed to understand them, since they had little to do with his own task.

Harry truly had an exceptional talent for flying. After Wood demonstrated it himself, Harry quickly reached a new level. His dazzling aerial maneuvers left Wood dumbfounded.

That completely put Wood's mind at ease about Harry.

And not just Wood. A few days later, when all the players gathered to train together, Harry's ability won their wholehearted approval.

They all agreed that Harry absolutely had the ability to represent the United Kingdom in the World Cup. Perhaps then he would earn the title of "the youngest Seeker in history"...

Harry merely smiled at that and said nothing more.

Time passed, and Harry's performance in Quidditch training grew better and better. Hogwarts' first Quidditch match was also about to begin.

There were three Quidditch matches every term at school.

During the first half of the term, the four Houses competed in pairs to determine two winners. In the second half, those two winning Houses played another match to determine the final victor.

Gryffindor's opponent was Slytherin.

However, although the Quidditch match was about to begin, a major holiday was also approaching, filling every student with heartfelt joy.

It was—Halloween Eve!

As one of the liveliest holidays of the year, there was no need to describe the anticipation and excitement it inspired. The first-years especially so. Harry's training continued as usual that evening. As a Seeker, the most important things were naturally eyesight and speed.

Wood switched things up today. When he arrived at the pitch, he had a black backpack slung over his shoulders. When he opened it, it was full of golf balls.

He chuckled. "This is your training for today."

After Harry flew into the sky, Wood actually pulled out his wand and pointed it at the golf balls. One ball immediately shot away, moving quickly but not on a steep trajectory.

That meant it would hit the ground quickly, and catching it before it landed would not be easy.

Of course, that was only true for the Harry of a few days ago.

Now? Harry dove down with ease, accelerated to top speed, and reached out to grab the ball.

"Is that all?" Harry asked.

Wood raised his head and shouted, "Don't rush. We're only getting started."

Wood gradually increased the number of golf balls sent flying at once. Not only did they fly off in every direction, but they were not all white; instead, they came in every color. That made it difficult for Harry to notice their positions in a short time.

While catching the balls in the air, he also had to keep track of which ball was about to land and which ball was similar in color to its surroundings, hidden among them.

This required divided attention, but not distraction.

The most balls Wood controlled at once was eight. By the time Harry caught the last one, it was almost at the exact instant it touched the ground, and he grabbed a clump of grass along with it.

After the training ended, Wood gave Harry a thumbs-up.

He knew very well how difficult this training was. Originally, he would have been shocked if Harry had managed to catch four balls in one go. He had never expected Harry to achieve this much.

This was actually related to Harry's powerful soul. It was what allowed his intensely focused mind to persist for so long; it would have been impossible for anyone else.

When he heard that training was over, Harry's mind finally relaxed, and his head immediately swelled with pain. He stood on the grass for a long while before recovering. This was mental fatigue.

The following morning is Christmas, when children begin opening their gifts. Adults visit relatives and friends everywhere and attend gatherings. It is the liveliest day.
