Though no one thought Harry intended to challenge the entire Slytherin team, they all grew wary.
Harry picked out a target and dove again.
Since a surprise attack would not work, he would charge straight through!
But his opponent was prepared. At the moment of impact, he dodged aside, then slyly caught up to Harry and flew shoulder to shoulder with him. Given his build, he had better odds if they collided head-on.
The spectators saw through his plan and could not help worrying about Harry.
He swayed outward, then slammed toward Harry with all his strength. But Harry had vanished. While his opponent flew outward to build momentum, Harry dropped beneath him. As he watched the other boy crash into the spot Harry had just vacated, he seized the chance to shoot upward, jerked his shoulder, and flipped him off his broom in one move.
The Slytherin extra fell from his Flying Broomstick. Panicking, he clawed wildly at the air with both hands, but could only watch the sky grow farther and farther away. Then, suddenly, he saw Harry flying toward him.
Was Harry coming to save him? But he would not be grateful to Harry. Viciously, he thought that once he caught hold of Harry, he would drag him down with him.
Yet to his surprise, Harry flew over with not a hand outstretched, but a foot.
Harry matched his speed to the boy's, then raised his right foot and, before his horrified eyes, stomped down hard.
Trample!
"Bang!"
His falling body resembled a little red flower that had been mercilessly crushed, a pitiful sight.
Dust flew everywhere.
Madam Pomfrey then took him away for treatment.
Madam Hooch blew her whistle again. She really seemed furious this time. Naturally, the Slytherins were even angrier, practically seething.
