"I have four second-circle spells." Anse opened his Dragonhide Pouch and handed Gianda the spell models he had prepared in advance.
Gianda accepted the booklet filled with complex spell structures and examined it carefully. His eyes grew brighter and brighter, yet his expression became more regretful.
"Why couldn't it be you?" His face was conflicted, unable to let it go.
Anse immediately understood and chuckled. "You think too highly of me. My magical attainments are still far from sufficient. The Goddess of Magic—she wouldn't choose me."
It was hard to say whether the Goddess of Magic even had a Chosen of God.
"Don't belittle yourself." Gianda looked up at him. "The spell models you provided last time caused quite a stir within the Society. Everyone gained a great deal from them. Many people have researched your spells as a foundation and developed even more spells—"
Spells had never existed in isolation. They came with an entire theoretical framework. Those few first-circle spells had not provided answers.
They had provided a viable method for putting theory into practice.
Once those genius mages found the right path, they would quickly catch up. Under their guidance, it would only be a matter of time before spellcasters returned to their former heights.
Perhaps most spellcasters would struggle to master mid- and high-circle spells in their lifetimes, but that was not fatal. Cantrips and first- and second-circle spells could likewise display astonishing power.
"Has the Society contacted Candlekeep?" Anse asked.
"No. They seem to be completely isolated from the outside world. We can't reach them through any channel, so we can only send people over there. The journey is long, and they probably won't arrive anytime soon." Gianda shook his head slightly and continued looking through the spell models.
