"You haven't been as proactive lately, have you?" Heli said from the passenger seat, wiping his mouth.
"Have I?" Harry felt refreshed as he stepped on the brake—they'd arrived.
Actually, yes. The Spartan Bio-Modification Surgery had adjusted his body's endocrine hormones, and one notable effect was a sharp decline in that particular drive.
But maybe it was because he'd been with Heli for so long that he still enjoyed Heli's "relaxing massage."
"Vietnam War veteran... distinguished service. Are we planning to form a private army? I have to remind you, the funding for the city police and the Prosecutor's Office over the past few months has already exceeded the original budget." As soon as they got out of the car, both of them snapped back into work mode, and Heli kept flipping through the documents in his hand.
"Also, the stock acquisition of Stark Industries has been put on hold because of that. We now hold 7% of Stark Industries, and they've already invited you to the next board meeting."
"That's not bad, but forget the board meeting. There's no point in going now." Harry waved his hand.
In truth, if it weren't for the possibility that Tony might come back, Harry wouldn't give a damn about Stark Industries as it stood now.
And even if Tony did return, his energy technology was hardly a black tech for Osborn Enterprises—after all, Doctor Otto's fusion dream was about to come true.
Of course, cold fusion and miniaturization would still take time to research, but Harry believed that wouldn't be a problem for Doctor Otto.
The stake in Stark Industries was a long-term play—if he could, he'd really love to cripple Stark Industries right now, but on one hand, there was no benefit to it; on the other, Congress wouldn't let this arms giant collapse, at least not yet.
"Alright, I've noted that. I'll just say their manager is a beauty now—you won't regret it, right?" Heli said as he wrote.
"Of course not, thanks. Tell me about Frank's situation. Who's hospitalized? His wife, daughter, or son?"
Harry's destination was a hospital that had been overflowing with patients due to the events of the past few weeks.
"It's his daughter. This Mr. Frank is a tough guy—Vietnam War veteran, distinguished service. Right when we started a series of investments in Hell's Kitchen, his family witnessed gang activity. His wife and son were... killed on the spot. His daughter was saved by a masked man, but she was seriously injured."
Because of Harry's interference, Kingpin was under heavy pressure, which gave Matt an opening to save Frank's daughter... It really seemed like the Butterfly Effect.
Selfishly speaking, this was good news. Harry didn't need the Punisher, but he did need an experienced, legendary veteran.
"I heard he became a military instructor after retiring?"
"He quit, just a few weeks ago."
Harry nodded, roughly understanding Frank's current state. He gestured for Heli to go find the doctor and get the details, while he walked toward the ICU.
Outside the ICU, Harry recognized Frank at a glance—the man was absurdly strong, but his mental state wasn't great. His face looked pale, and gray hairs had sprouted at his temples.
Harry didn't hide his intentions. The moment Harry got close, Frank stopped pacing.
"Mr. Frank Castle?"
"You're... Harry Osborn?" Frank naturally recognized Harry. He wasn't a fool.
When he first provided the police with information about the bastards who had harmed his family, the police didn't help him, claiming the pursuit was too difficult.
So he picked up a gun, relying on his own skills and connections to find those guys and the people behind them, and submitted the evidence to the Prosecutor's Office.
What drove him to despair was that these bastards were all in cahoots!
In his rage, he decided to take justice into his own hands. But seeing his severely injured daughter lying in bed, he hesitated—then he saw Harry Osborn and his father Norman Osborn, and the changes in Hell's Kitchen, so he decided to try one more time.
And this time, the law didn't let him down—but he knew it wasn't that the law had suddenly opened its eyes. After going through something like that, he wasn't stupid. He knew it was entirely because of Osborn's intervention that things had turned around.
He didn't know how to describe his thoughts or feelings about it, but he still felt a certain gratitude toward the father and son.
It allowed him to calm down and stay by his daughter's side.
"Mr. Osborn, are you looking for me?" Frank didn't know why this Osborn was here.
"Yes. First, thank you for your contributions to the country. Second, thank you for your reports in rooting out evil in Hell's Kitchen—though I suppose these words should come from the officials."
The two shook hands, but Castle knew this definitely wasn't the reason Harry had come.
"You're a soldier, so I won't beat around the bush. I can save your daughter."
What?
Frank lunged forward and grabbed Harry by the collar!
"What did you say? You can save my daughter? Please, save her! I'll pay any price!"
Frank clung to it like a lifeline, shouting uncontrollably.
After Harry gestured for him to calm down, Frank sat down in a chair, looking lost, and began to speak:
"The doctor said her liver took a massive hit and bled heavily. Even though she got to the hospital early, she's too young, and her liver failed."
"It's all my fault. I should have been with them..."
As Frank sank into despair, Heli returned.
"The problem is serious. Liver rupture led to failure, along with biliary peritonitis and infection."
Harry had a basic understanding of medicine. In short, Frank's daughter was already close to death. The only option was to first transplant a liver to stabilize her vital signs, then deal with the other inflammations.
But given her current condition... first, there was no suitable liver available; second, her body was too weak. It was hard to guarantee she wouldn't die on the spot from rejection after the transplant.
Coincidentally, Harry did have a way to solve these problems.
"Frank, I'm sorry this happened, but I can tell you that Osborn does have the technology to treat your daughter. However, this technology is still in the experimental stage, and I need you to understand the risks."
Heli pulled out the documents he had prepared in advance.
Harry wasn't lying to him. Although the technology the system had given him included artificial organs, Conners' current research mainly focused on artificial nerves and prosthetic limbs. Harry had planned to announce the artificial organs later, so he hadn't let them operate in the lab yet.
If Frank agreed, the development of his daughter's organs would be handled by Norman and Harry.
This would mark the first real-world application of the technology, and objectively speaking, the success rate was not one hundred percent.
After reading the document, Frank nodded decisively.
"I agree to use this technology on my daughter." He had no other choice.
Harry chuckled inwardly—Frank hadn't asked what he would need to do, but that didn't mean he could rest easy thinking Harry was truly there to offer charity.
