S.W.O.R.D., formally known as the Sentient Weapon Observation and Research Division, had been founded at the end of the last century.
Its founder, and current director, was Maria Lambo. She had once been Captain Marvel's Air Force teammate, and after Captain Marvel returned to Earth, the two had shared an experience of "fighting aliens."
That experience was precisely what led to the creation of S.W.O.R.D.
When UNSC was established, it consolidated most departments. However, S.W.O.R.D. had not been integrated for various reasons. Hammer Tech Bureau, UNSC, and S.W.O.R.D. were considered colleagues, all under the jurisdiction of the UN Security Council.
In the office, Maria Lambo was waiting for Harry to explain why he had come.
Harry began, "Director Lambo, I assume you know about Ultron, the intelligent machine that recently launched attacks in Detroit?"
Maria was already over sixty. She still looked to be in fairly good health, though in a few years, she would develop cancer.
She nodded, but her emotions had already begun to shift.
"Then I'll keep this brief—the Avengers tracked it all the way to a hidden underground complex in the Michigan suburbs. There, they found several insignias connected to your division.
"Additionally, I discovered that the company previously responsible for recovering Synthetics seemed to have close ties to some of your employees."
Honestly, that was nothing more than a clumsy cover-up—if S.W.O.R.D. had taken on that work under its own name, it would have been entirely reasonable and legitimate.
After all, they were the Sentient Weapon Observation Bureau. Yet they insisted on conducting some kind of covert operation. It was hard not to suspect that they were up to something.
"...Yes, that factory was indeed under S.W.O.R.D.'s jurisdiction. It was used to recover the remains of your company's Synthetics. We are victims as well," Maria
