There had been many speculations about Tachyons, particles that traveled faster than light.
People had once speculated that if humans traveled through the universe at faster-than-light speeds, they would witness a series of incredible phenomena: arrows flying backward, shells returning to their barrels, the dead coming back to life, and other strange sights.
Another theory held that there was another universe composed of faster-than-light particles, carrying negative energy, and that only after obtaining infinite energy would they fall back below the speed of light.
From a mathematical perspective, Tachyons could exist, but there had never been either indirect or direct evidence that they truly did. Many laboratories had seemingly discovered faster-than-light particles, but they were ultimately all deemed experimental errors.
As for the Warp Speed and Hyperspace Lane used by existing FTL engines, neither counted as true Faster Than Light travel. Although a Flying Vehicle did indeed cover a greater distance than light within a given period relative to normal spacetime, it was not faster-than-light travel in the strict sense.
Thus, the people in the laboratory generally believed this would be another fruitless endeavor. But since Harry had gone to such lengths to summon everyone, they naturally took the matter seriously.
"I've been ready all along. You guys are too slow." Pietro made a disdainful face in the observation room.
Seeing that, Harry gave the order. "Prepare to begin."
Oyin's voice rang out across the empty track:
"Mr. Pietro, the experiment will begin in ten seconds. Please remember that your tasks are: running at maximum speed..."
"...inside the laboratory, and keep in mind that my speed may gradually increase. Don't hit the walls. Seriously, couldn't you prepare a treadmill? This is going to be terrible for my knees."
Quicksilver seemed to be complaining that the place was too small. In
