The TVA had been built single-handedly by The One Who Remains. The entire organization operated on the things and rules he had given them. Killing him meant overthrowing the TVA.
But when the two Lokis crossed countless hardships to reach this place, they discovered that this, too, had been arranged.
The One Who Remains, the man who claimed to have ended the ancient Multiversal War, waited freely at the end of time for them to decide whether he lived or died—and to decide the fate of the entire multiverse.
Sylvie had always kept her eyes on her target, but Loki had not. He had begun to believe the story The One Who Remains had told.
The journey's end was right before them, yet the two who had been through so much together had fallen into conflict. Blade-light and magical radiance flashed and dimmed within the tiny room!
Their thoughts were a mess. Neither could determine whether The One Who Remains was telling the truth or lying. Sylvie gave up considering that possibility and simply trusted herself, while Loki hesitated. What if this guy was telling the truth?
Ever since entering the TVA and seeing his own life, he had begun wanting to be a good person. Bringing about a Multiversal War was not something a good person should do!
Bang!
The short blade and dagger collided. They each grabbed the other's weapon hand, but Sylvie gritted her teeth and let go. The dagger nearly cut her throat!
"Come on! Kill me and take your throne!"
Of course Loki could not bring himself to strike. Sensing his hesitation, Sylvie flung him away.
"Sylvie—Sylvie!" Loki used magic to pull Sylvie back again. "Maybe he's telling the truth. Maybe he's lying. But the cost of being wrong is too great!"
