"If your brain is still functioning normally, you should've guessed Magneto was behind this." Logan said speechlessly.
"Just kidding. I'll let you down right away." Lu Yifang said with a smile as he walked over.
"Yifang, behind you!" No sooner had Storm's warning fallen than Lu Yifang sensed someone approaching from behind.
He instinctively turned around and saw a blond, burly man nearly two meters tall standing behind him. The man's beastlike eyes were fixed on Lu Yifang, their aggression impossible to miss.
"Uh, you're Sabretooth, right? Can we settle this peacefully? If you don't attack me, I can consider giving you some Catnip in return." Lu Yifang waved awkwardly as he spoke.
"Roar!" Sabretooth roared and reached out to grab Lu Yifang by the shoulder, seemingly intending to throw him away.
But no matter how hard he tried, he could not lift Lu Yifang. At that moment, Lu Yifang suddenly reached out with both hands and grabbed one of Sabretooth's arms.
Looking at Sabretooth's surprised expression, Lu Yifang suddenly drew a deep breath and imitated White Queen with an over-the-shoulder throw.
"Boom!"
With a violent tremor, the ground was smashed open into a huge hole, and Sabretooth had already fallen through from the top floor.
"How did the great Sabretooth turn into such an idiot?" Lu Yifang remarked before turning around to free Cyclops and the others.
Once he was lowered, Logan stretched his limbs, but his gaze unconsciously drifted toward the huge hole Sabretooth had made. Wolverine's expression toward Lu Yifang became complicated.
"Looks like you held back at the school." Wolverine, whose opinion of Lu Yifang had risen greatly, instinctively reached out to pat him on the shoulder. But just as his hand was about to touch Lu Yifang's shoulder, he abruptly stopped.
Smacking his lips, Wolverine had no idea how to face Lu Yifang. He could only give an awkward smile before silently withdrawing his hand.
Lu Yifang smiled as well and said nothing more.
"Where's Magneto?" Lu Yifang turned and asked.
"At the torch of the Statue of Liberty. He's probably about to activate the machine." Cyclops said.
As if to confirm his words, the top of the torch suddenly burst open, revealing a machine. Sitting inside it was an ordinary-looking girl—Rogue.
Magneto stood beside her, holding her hand.
Anyone who came into contact with Rogue's skin would have their life energy absorbed by her. If the other person was a Mutant, she would temporarily gain that Mutant's ability as well.
At that moment, Magneto already looked as though Rogue had drained him dry. Yet the stubborn old man still refused to let go of her hand and instead struggled to activate the machine.
A vertical iron ring began spinning rapidly around Rogue and Magneto. White light started pouring from the machine. It looked like white light at first glance, but on closer inspection, it resembled a mass of liquid white radiance.
It expanded slowly, but as the white mass grew larger, its rate of expansion visibly increased.
Within the sphere of light, Rogue was screaming in agony. A lock of hair at her forehead could vaguely be seen turning white at a speed visible to the naked eye.
"This is bad. Magneto has activated the machine. It'll kill Rogue! Cyclops, destroy it!" Logan shouted anxiously at Cyclops.
"No. The machine's rotation is interfering with me. Firing a shockwave recklessly could hurt Rogue." Cyclops said through gritted teeth.
"Other than Magneto, no one knows how deeply the machine is connected to Rogue. Destroying it by force might kill her instead." Jean said.
"I'll capture Magneto and make him tell us." Logan had already rushed into the white sphere, extending his metal claws as he climbed toward the top of the Statue of Liberty's torch.
"By the time Uncle Logan gets an answer out of Magneto, New York will probably have already been irradiated once." Lu Yifang muttered as he watched the white sphere reach him. He stomped on the ground and shot into the air, charging toward the top of the torch.
"Cool!" Logan was struggling to climb the torch with his claws when he saw Lu Yifang fly past him, and the word escaped him instinctively.
"Who are you?" Magneto, still holding Rogue's hand, saw an unfamiliar young man suddenly leap up and his expression changed. He had no free hand to stop Lu Yifang.
"Obviously, I'm here to save this girl." Lu Yifang strode forward.
"I warn you not to act rashly. She's become the core of this machine. If you destroy it, she definitely won't come out unharmed." Magneto said, panting.
"I see. That is troublesome." Lu Yifang frowned.
"Not sure if it'll work, but I can only try this for now." Looking at Magneto and Rogue, both with their hands pressed against the machine, Lu Yifang placed his hand on it as well.
"Vector Control: Reflection!!"
The instant Lu Yifang shouted those words, the white sphere stopped expanding. It felt as though time itself had frozen.
But the next moment, the white sphere began rapidly receding and shrinking at a visible rate. All the energy returned to the machine in an instant, as if it had never stopped flowing in the first place.
Rogue's agonized cries ceased, but the streak of white hair at her forehead did not disappear. Lu Yifang had merely reflected all the energy back; he had not turned back time, so naturally he could not restore that lock of hair.
"Are you okay?" Lu Yifang asked Rogue tentatively.
"I'm fine. Ah, your hand! Let go of me!" Rogue noticed that Lu Yifang was holding her hand and immediately cried out in terror.
"What's wrong with my hand?" Lu Yifang looked at Rogue in confusion.
"You're actually fine? Aren't you afraid of me... no, I mean, aren't you afraid of my power?" Rogue stared at Lu Yifang as if she had seen a ghost. Even when Magneto had tied her up here, her expression had not been this exaggerated.
"Looks like I shouldn't be." Lu Yifang said as he removed Rogue's restraints.
Rogue's ability could not hurt him. With Vector Control, how could he possibly have his energy absorbed by someone else? In fact, if Lu Yifang had not restrained the power of Reflection, the energy inside Rogue would have flowed back into Lu Yifang instead, and Rogue would have been the one to die.
"This is unbelievable." Rogue covered her nose, her eyes already completely red.
"Are you okay?" Seeing Rogue cry, Lu Yifang was immediately at a loss. Don't tell me my Reflection hurt her somehow. This is the first time I've used Reflection on this scale.
"I'm fine. I'm just happy." Yes, Rogue was happy. At that moment, she even suspected she was dreaming.
There was actually someone in this world who was not afraid of her ability, someone who could touch her freely. Was there anything that could make her happier than that?
Rogue stared intently at Lu Yifang, as if she wanted to burn every detail of him into her heart. What was the name of this young man who had come to save her? An inexplicable sense of destiny rose within Rogue's heart.
Lu Yifang had no idea what the girl behind him was thinking, because his gaze had already shifted to Magneto. After Lu Yifang activated Reflection, Magneto plopped down onto the ground.
His face had originally been pale, as though he were about to ****, but now it was flushed bright red, as if he had swallowed a whole box of super-strength pills. That was only natural. The power Rogue had drained from him had been violently reflected back into his body by Lu Yifang. No one would have felt good after that.
"Old Master Magneto, are you alright?" Lu Yifang asked, lowering his head to look at Magneto. As Professor X's longtime best friend, if anything serious happened to him, Lu Yifang would have a hard time explaining it to Professor X.
Hearing Lu Yifang's words, Magneto suddenly raised his head. His flushed face twitched before he finally forced three words out through clenched teeth.
"A little... stuffed!"
