Uchiha Itachi frowned. Putting together what the Root Squad Leader had said earlier, he quickly worked out that the Root Squad's target was to take Shisui to meet Danzo.
But Danzo's reason for seeking out Shisui was highly suspicious.
Danzo was a ninja who would stop at nothing to achieve his goals. If abandoning a comrade would let him complete a mission, he wouldn't hesitate to do it. After all, completing missions brought benefits to the village.
Danzo had most likely sent people to invite Shisui this time because he wanted to take Shisui's Mangekyō Sharingan.
Since they were looking for Brother Shisui, he probably hadn't run into trouble yet. But with Brother Shisui's strength, dealing with these people would be easy. So why hadn't he shown up by now?
Could Brother Shisui already have fallen into enemy hands?
After pressing them for more details, Uchiha Itachi learned that Shisui had recently fought a mysterious ninja. He also learned that Wood Style Creations had been left behind at the scene.
In other words, Shisui had been wounded by a Wood Style user and was now missing.
As far as Uchiha Itachi knew, only two people in the Ninja World had mastered Wood Style: Obito, who had tried to recruit him, and Senior Yamato.
If it was the former, then Obito had deceived him. But Obito had no reason to do that.
If it was the latter, then the Third Lord had made a move against Shisui—and had acted even faster than Danzo. Was he afraid of Kotoamatsukami, and so desperate to destroy it?
Uchiha Itachi had already suspected as much. Shisui's disappearance only confirmed it.
He had never imagined that, besides Danzo, even the beloved Hokage would choose to target Shisui.
