So he wasn't exactly misleading anyone.
"But it's getting late today. Come find me tomorrow, and I'll personally take you hunting so you can improve your strength as quickly as possible."

Since One Hit 999 was the only Jackalman Skyfaller, Wind Wolf naturally had to train him personally to show how much he valued him.
