After finishing the holy water, the Three Demons kowtowed to thank him for his favor and withdrew. Goku and the others also returned to the temple.
The next day, the group went to the palace to have their travel permit papers stamped.
When the three demons saw Sun Wukong, they suddenly remembered what had happened the night before, and anger surged within them.
So the Three Demons said to the emperor, "Your Majesty, these people's character is nothing like that of pilgrims. Last night, they pretended to be our Dao Ancestor and deceived us. We absolutely cannot let them off today."
Goku said, "You didn't know whether that Dao Ancestor was real or not, yet you drank the holy water?"
The Three Demons said, "We trust the Dao Ancestor. We never imagined that you would transform into his likeness to deceive us. Naturally, we had no way of knowing."
Goku said, "We know nothing about this matter."
The Three Demons were helpless. They couldn't win an argument with Goku, so they fell silent.
At that moment, many people outside the palace were asking the king and the National Teacher to bring rain. Seeing that the two sides were arguing incessantly, the king said,
"Today, both sides have made their case. So today, we'll set up an altar and hold a contest. If the National Teacher wins, I'll hand these people over to him. If these monks win, I'll let them pass."
