After Goku saw those words, he understood what they meant. This was Great Master Guanyin's kindness!
Then Goku leaped up into the tree to pick the fruit, while little Axi helped gather it.
The Land God knew the Great Sage must have things of his own to attend to, so he bowed to Goku and then turned and left.
From below, the fruit on the tree had looked sparse, as if there were hardly any. But once they climbed up and started picking, it no longer seemed that way.
They picked for quite a while, until they had gathered nearly all the fruit from the tree. Then Goku said to little Axi, "Axi, I think that's about enough!"
Little Axi nodded. Goku climbed down, picked up the bag of fruit she had packed, and took her hand as they headed out.
As Goku and Axi turned to leave, they heard the fruit tree behind them swaying back and forth. They looked around and saw it sinking into the earth.
Before long, the great tree had disappeared beneath the soil, leaving no trace behind.
Seeing this, Goku hurriedly set down the bag of fruit he was carrying, knelt on both knees, and pressed his palms together. Facing forward, he said, "Thank you, Great Master Guanyin!" Then he bowed his head once.
Little Axi watched Goku in confusion and asked him, "Goku, what are you doing? You already did that before. Why are you doing it again?"
Hearing her question, Goku said, "Axi, this isn't something just anyone can do. Do you know Great Master Guanyin is helping us?"
"Great Master Guanyin? You mean the Bodhisattva Guanyin of the South Sea?" Axi asked in surprise.
Goku nodded.
Then Axi understood what was going on. She joined Goku in pressing her palms together
