The Land of Demons' Predicament

Uchiha Chen glanced at him but said nothing. He simply continued eating the food on the table. To him, Gan Feng's words were nowhere near as appealing as the food.

"Mr. Chen, we sincerely wish to invite you. Please..." Gan Feng tried to persuade Uchiha Chen further, but when he saw Chen's indifferent expression, he couldn't help growing anxious.

Although Zijing hadn't said anything, Gan Feng wasn't a fool. She was clearly weak, and was desperately trying to act as if nothing was wrong. He hadn't said it aloud, but he understood perfectly well.

The Land of Demons was running out of time.

Zijing wouldn't last much longer. Miko were always born one at a time; a new Miko wouldn't be born until the previous one had died.

Zijing had only just turned eighteen. There was no chance she could have a child yet, and even if a new Miko were born, she would need time to grow and train.

But time was exactly what the Land of Demons lacked.

Zijing, Gan Feng, and the other important figures of the Land of Demons all knew that if things continued this way without any new hope, the demon might emerge again.

Although the news hadn't been made public, the Kage of the various countries and ninja villages knew at least a little about it.

But what could knowing do? They were powerless to help. All they could do was provide the Land of Demons with as many supplies as possible and send more medical ninja to tend to the Miko's health.

They had already prepared for the worst. If the demon broke free, they would use the weight of public opinion to force the Miko to sacrifice her life and seal it again.

That didn't mean they were cold-blooded and heartless.
