Just as the police officers were beginning to wonder whether Chen Xiyao had already gone mad, she suddenly spoke up and asked this question. The officer in charge took his credentials from his pocket and showed her his photo and the page bearing a large official seal. Only after she had clearly confirmed the details did he speak.
"That's right. We're from the Yan Country Supernatural Tale Countermeasures Bureau. You're probably unfamiliar with that name. Put more simply, we're Approaching Science."
"Approaching Science? Are you serious?" Chen Xiyao had thought the Supernatural Tale Countermeasures Bureau sounded pretty impressive. And it turned out to be Approaching Science?
The officer didn't answer her question, instead asking:
"Do you know what the place you went to was?"
"I heard it's called Infinite City." Chen Xiyao didn't try to dodge the question. She simply gave the name she'd heard from Feng Xue. The officer nodded slightly, then explained:
"Weird Tales have existed in this world since ancient times. In the distant past, people invented gods out of fear of nature, and the worship of those gods gave rise to the first Weird Tales. But as time went on, humanity's power grew and technology gradually advanced. People became less and less afraid of nature and the gods, which meant fewer new Weird Tales appeared, and those that did were weaker. This was especially true after the Feathered Serpent God of Colombia and the Aztec civilization were wiped out by Iberian colonizers over four hundred years ago. That marked the end of the era of Weird Tales and deities."
Chen Xiyao knew the story couldn't end there, or an organization like this wouldn't exist. But she didn't say anything to encourage
