Before dawn the next day, residents of Walvis Bay suddenly heard a series of urgent military commands outside their windows, followed by the roar of countless car engines.
Cars sped past the residents' windows one after another, shrouding the entire town in a gloomy, oppressive haze.
Many people were startled, thinking rebels had appeared in Namibia or that war was about to break out.
Nervously, they looked outside, only to see hundreds of fully armed soldiers marching through Walvis Bay in long lines. Military jeeps were parked in a row, as if awaiting an inspection by a leader.
Seeing that the soldiers weren't on alert, the residents finally breathed a sigh of relief.
What was even more surprising, however, was that the entire force stopped at the Flamingo Hotel. Before long, several soldiers escorted a yellow-skinned man out of the hotel, and he climbed into a military vehicle.
