Chen Lin was naturally unmoved by Bai Ruxue's suggestion.
He gave a noncommittal laugh and said, "I don't have your strength, Brother Bai. I'd better wait and see."
Then his eyes flickered, and he added, "Besides, I came here for a different reason from you. I'm here to complete a Peerage Mission. If all else fails, I can simply admit failure and leave. There's no need to take such a huge risk."
Having said that, Chen Lin watched the other man, studying his expression.
At last, a slight change appeared on that perpetually composed face. Though it vanished in an instant, Chen Lin still caught it.
With his goal achieved, he wasted no more words. He smiled and said, "Then I won't disturb you any longer, Brother Bai. I still need to see whether any Exchange Meetings are coming up. It looks like I won't be able to complete my Peerage Mission, so I ought to trade for a few good things to take back, at least. Otherwise, I'll be taking a tremendous loss."
He cupped his fists, then turned and left with Blind Girl.
Watching Chen Lin's retreating figure, Bai Ruxue frowned slightly.
After making a circuit of the streets and learning more about the situation, Chen Lin arrived at the City Gate.
The Guard Unit remained at their posts, and the Captain of the Guard in his golden helmet and armor was there as well.
"Greetings, sir!"
Chen Lin asked Blind Girl to wait nearby, then walked up to the Captain of the Guard and greeted him respectfully.
"What is it?"
The Captain of the Guard glanced at him, his voice icy.
Chen Lin immediately said, "There are a few things I'd like to ask about. Would that be all right?"
"Speak!"
To Chen Lin's surprise, the other
