Chen Lin watched the newcomer warily.
The man had a head as large as a bushel basket, but his body was as thin as firewood. Less than three feet tall, he was pitch-black all over except for his pale facial features, making him look bizarrely abstract.
His aura was deeply concealed, giving no indication of his cultivation, yet he radiated a faint sense of danger.
"Who might you be?"
After looking him over, Chen Lin cupped his hands and asked.
However peculiar the man looked, his mind seemed sound, so Chen Lin showed ample goodwill, hoping to establish a rapport.
Contempt appeared on the Big-Headed Man's face.
Looking down on him, he said, "A mere inferior creature dares ask my name?"
He did not wait for Chen Lin to speak.
Suddenly, he raised a hand. A mystic rune flickering with an eerie glow flew from his palm toward Chen Lin.
At the same time, he spoke indifferently.
"I happen to need an ingredient. You'll do!"
The moment the rune appeared, Chen Lin felt a terrifying pressure. It was as though he faced not a rune, but a mighty divine being he could not look upon directly. Instinctively, he wanted to prostrate himself in worship and offer up everything he had.
But immediately afterward-
His soul blemish quivered, and soul power washed through his spirit platform, freeing him from the mental suppression.
His awareness cleared.
"Hmph!"
Chen Lin snorted coldly.
Abandoning any hope of communicating with the man, he flicked his fingers repeatedly. Soul-Destroying Finger attacks shot out like bolts from a repeating crossbow, some intercepting the rune while the others struck at the man himself.
"Impossible!"
The Big-Headed Man cried out in shock.
He apparently had not expected Chen Lin to escape the rune's suppression, much less fight back, and
