Zhao Zhengyuan's axe clashed with Ye Jingyun's flying sword, and it was the flying sword that was knocked away!
The sight gave Chen Lin a tremendous shock.
He even felt an urge to join the fight, but immediately suppressed it.
Driving Ye Jingyun back meant nothing. Yu Yuehai was the real threat.
He had never seen a Foundation Establishment Cultivator fight, but even the rumors made it clear that Foundation Establishment and Qi Condensation were on entirely different levels-as far apart as clouds and mud.
Otherwise, how could the Five Major Families suppress so many cultivators in Kaiyuan City with only five Foundation Establishment Cultivators between them?
Zhao Zhengyuan's strike had shocked not only Chen Lin, but everyone else as well.
Watching her flying sword crash to the ground, Ye Jingyun felt a moment of unreality. But she quickly recovered and summoned the sword back into her hand with a beckoning gesture.
"You're not in the mid Qi Refinement realm. You've certainly hidden your strength well!"
Holding her flying sword across her body, Ye Jingyun continued to stand in front of Yu Yuehai.
The Xia Sisters also took out their magical tools and watched Zhao Zhengyuan intently.
Although the flying sword had been knocked away, it had stopped Zhao Zhengyuan's attack. Yu Yuehai, however, seemed oblivious to the situation. He continued manipulating the Array Disk as the Light Sword grew increasingly solid.
Chen Lin's eyes flickered. He took out his own flying sword and stood at the rear, pointing it toward Zhao Zhengyuan.
At a moment like this, he had to make his allegiance unmistakable.
"You bunch of idiots! Do you know what he's doing?"
Zhao Zhengyuan let out another hysterical shout. His aura rose steadily as he prepared to attack again.
But just then, Yu Yuehai finished forming the Light Sword and turned around.
"Tsk. I thought you were someone who knew how to hide his intentions. I never expected you to be this pathetic."
Yu Yuehai extended a hand, shaking his head in derision.
As his words fell, his hand closed around Zhao Zhengyuan's Giant Axe. Zhao Zhengyuan seemed frozen, allowing Yu Yuehai to take the axe from him. Then he screamed, clutched his head, and collapsed to the ground, wailing without end.
Chen Lin was shocked beyond measure.
He had not seen how Yu Yuehai attacked at all. The man had merely glanced back, and Zhao Zhengyuan, whose cultivation had clearly reached the qi condensation late stage, had become as helpless as an infant.
Was this the power of the Foundation Establishment realm? It was far too overwhelming!
Chen Lin silently reminded himself that some of his earlier plans were probably useless now. If he wanted to escape Yu Yuehai's control, he would have to take the long view.
At the same time, he was thankful he had not acted rashly.
Zhao Zhengyuan's wails grew fainter, until he lay there foaming at the mouth and twitching incessantly.
The Xia Sisters had gone pale, clearly shaken by Yu Yuehai's methods as well. Only Ye Jingyun stood there expressionlessly.
Yu Yuehai glanced at Zhao Zhengyuan and paid him no further attention. Instead, he pointed at the Light Sword above the Array Disk, sending it shooting into the sky!
The Light Sword moved astonishingly fast, and its trajectory actually led straight toward the Monstrosity's Phantom Image.
Chen Lin paled in alarm. Had this man gone mad? They could barely escape, yet he was deliberately provoking it?
Was he afraid he wouldn't die quickly enough?
The Light Sword formed earlier by the five enormous beams within the city had been so powerful, yet even that had failed to harm the Monstrosity. This miniature version would barely scratch an itch.
But what was Yu Yuehai trying to do? Surely he knew how powerful his own creation was!
Chen Lin was deeply puzzled, and he was not the only one.
The Xia Sisters' eyes were likewise filled with uncertainty and alarm, but they wisely kept silent.
Yu Yuehai had always struck them as capricious and ruthless. If they displeased him and ended up like Zhao Zhengyuan, wouldn't they merely be inviting trouble?
In the end, it was Ye Jingyun who spoke.
"Senior Brother, we should hurry and leave. Even if that Monstrosity is still undergoing its transformation, there's no way we can kill it."
But Yu Yuehai said nothing. He stared expressionlessly at the Monstrosity's Phantom Image, then took out five Large Spirit Stones and shot them into the slots in the Array Disk.
The four exchanged looks, at a loss for what to do. All they could do was quietly watch his baffling maneuvers.
In that brief interval, the Light Sword had already flown beneath the Monstrosity's Phantom Image. The image was so enormous that there was no need to aim. Missing it would have been difficult.
Just as Chen Lin had expected, the Light Sword vanished into the Monstrosity's Phantom Image without causing the slightest damage. Instead, it enraged the creature.
The Monstrosity's Phantom Image, which had been briefly still, actually rotated. Then an aloof, icy aura abruptly descended.
It felt exactly like the aura of a cultivator casting a sidelong glance with a cold sneer, except thousands upon thousands of times stronger.
Immediately afterward, countless red lines shot out of the Monstrosity's Phantom Image, thicker and larger than before.
These red lines were exceptionally fast and unerringly precise. In the blink of an eye, the cultivators lagging behind were connected to them once more and instantly sucked into dried husks.
The Escapist Lights in the sky dropped like dumplings into a pot, while terrified shouts rang out without pause.
Chen Lin's group was no exception. Six red lines rushed straight toward them as though they had eyes, each shooting toward the top of someone's head.
But by then, another Light Sword had formed above Yu Yuehai's Array Disk. With a beckoning gesture, he sent it into the air, where it unleashed a ribbon of brilliant sword qi that severed all six red lines.
"Go!"
Having done this, Yu Yuehai grabbed Zhao Zhengyuan and tossed him aboard the Flying Boat. He put away the Array Disk and sent the little boat hurtling forward just above the ground.
This time, however, he did not move very fast. After flying for a while, he stopped again.
"Senior Brother, you aren't planning to seize a different spirit, are you?"
Ye Jingyun suddenly spoke, disbelief showing in her eyes.
At last, Yu Yuehai broke his silence. Forcing out a savage smile, he said, "That's right. But whether I get a chance will depend on whether those old fellows have the guts!"
With that, he activated the Array Disk again and tossed it onto the ground, setting the spirit stones in place so he could form another Light Sword at any moment.
Chen Lin was intensely curious about the different spirit Yu Yuehai had mentioned, but he knew asking would be pointless if the man did not want to tell him.
The Xia Sisters, on the other hand, seemed to know something about it. Like Ye Jingyun, both looked horrified.
Just then, Chen Lin noticed Ye Jingyun turn her gaze toward him. It was only a fleeting glance, but there was something strange in it.
He did not know whether he was being overly sensitive, but he felt she had done it deliberately. What she meant by it, however, he had no way of guessing.
Still, he became more vigilant. Finding a moment when Yu Yuehai was not paying attention, he touched the Storage Bag at his waist that held the Thunderbolt Beads.
Then he checked the Nameless Sword Qi inside his body. Unfortunately, it had only just formed and had not yet been nurtured, so he had no idea how powerful it was.
While he was thinking, movement appeared in the sky once more.
As the red lines ran rampant, capturing and devouring cultivators farther and farther away, the Lan Family's enormous Flying Boat in the sky suddenly rumbled. Then it, too, formed a Light Sword.
Like the one Yu Yuehai had created, this Light Sword was an imitation of the one formed earlier by the enormous pillars of light within the city. It was, however, much larger than Yu Yuehai's.
The Light Sword blazed with boundless radiance, turning the night sky as bright as day.
Then it slashed downward!
Not only were all the red lines rushing toward the enormous boat severed, but those heading toward the surrounding cultivators were also destroyed. Those cultivators felt as though they had been granted a new lease on life. No longer daring to remain brazenly in the sky, they dove into the forest below.
