After traveling more than a hundred miles, Chen Lin stopped on a small hill.

He checked his surroundings first. Finding nothing amiss, he set up an Isolation Array and began examining what he had just acquired.

Besides the ten blood spirits he had fished up, Gu Lianfeng had left behind a Pill Bottle.

When Gu Lianfeng and the lake vanished together, Chen Lin had thought the lake was an Illusion Realm and that the blood spirits he had caught would disappear with it.

But they had not.

He opened the Spirit Storage Bottles one by one to inspect their contents. He could still sense the blood spirits' willingness to obey him, which left him astonished.

That feeling was why he had not thrown them away after Gu Lianfeng left. What use they might be, though, would take careful study.

After examining the blood spirits, he picked up the Pill Bottle.

It held only one pill, as red as blood. Yet it gave off no bloody smell. Instead, it radiated intense waves of energy, and Chen Lin could almost feel it trembling continuously, as if it were alive.

He fell into thought.

Gu Lianfeng had made a special trip to see him. There was no way he would have given Chen Lin a useless pill. Both the blood spirits and the pill were probably things he could use in the Ruin, though they might also be connected to the Tavern Proprietress.

But Gu Lianfeng had acted as though he were above everyone else and had not told him what they were for. It was maddening.
