Ch. 921Gege Yun
Key plot points and events
- Chen Lin finds a floating Demon-Suppressing Scripture in the cave and wonders whether it connects to the Demon-Suppressing Temple and Nian Kong. Since he has already severed his former ties to the Temple, he chooses not to attack the book and instead waits for Gege Yun to return.
- Chen Lin and Grass spend more than a hundred years cultivating in the cave. Chen Lin stabilizes and perfects his spells and Dao arts, while Grass greatly improves her sword technique.
- During a routine visit to White Cloud Pasture, Chen Lin finds Gege Yun back. She scolds him for abandoning his shepherd duties and demands that he bring in higher-order creatures to improve the pasture’s declining grade.
- Chen Lin uses the request as an opening to ask Gege Yun for help with the mysterious book. She gives him a red flower as a means to summon her into the cave.
- Once there, Gege Yun confirms the Scripture is suppressing something and smashes through the cave floor. Beneath it, they find Nian Kong’s withered clone seated on a black lotus platform.
- Nian Kong opens his eyes and addresses Chen Lin. Chen Lin asks Gege Yun whether this “heretical entity” qualifies as a suitable creature for her pasture, hoping to have Nian Kong turned into a sheep.
Character developments and interactions
- Chen Lin shows greater composure than he once had about the Demon-Suppressing Temple and refuses to be drawn into acting rashly. He uses patience and negotiation to turn Gege Yun’s demands to his advantage.
- Grass remains a loyal companion, cultivating beside Chen Lin and becoming far more skilled with her sword.
- Gege Yun is irritable and quick to blame Chen Lin, but she agrees to help once he asks. Her immense strength is revealed when she easily breaks the cave floor.
- Nian Kong is exposed as the likely presence beneath the Scripture—and as the “lingering” figure Chen Lin suspected was tied to his predicament. His dramatic reappearance sets up a confrontation.
Significant themes
- Patience and self-control: Chen Lin avoids a risky attack and waits for a better opportunity.
- Cultivation as consolidation: A long period with little advancement in rank still strengthens Chen Lin’s foundation and abilities.
- Pragmatism and leverage: Chen Lin works within Gege Yun’s demands to secure help rather than confront the problem alone.
- Unresolved supernatural ties: The discovery beneath the Scripture suggests that Chen Lin’s past connection to Nian Kong and the Demon-Suppressing Temple may not be fully over.
