Chen Lin felt as though he had passed through a sheet of water, and then a noisy clamor reached his ears.
The sight before him rooted him to the spot, his face filled with shock.
Only after a long while did he turn back with a peculiar expression. The Ancient Bridge had vanished, replaced by a bustling street.
Both sides of the road were lined with quaint buildings, vendors of every kind, and a constant stream of pedestrians. Everything stood in stark contrast to the eerie surroundings he had just left, as though he had returned from hell to the mortal world.
Was he out already?
Chen Lin still found it hard to believe. It seemed a little too easy.
He extended his divine sense to investigate and confirmed that everyone was alive-and that they were all ordinary mortals.
That allowed him to breathe a slight sigh of relief.
Still, he remained vigilant. After all, the ghostly creatures in that space filled with countless separate houses had also looked just like living people, making it impossible to distinguish the real from the false.
He advanced cautiously, inspecting his surroundings as he walked.
After walking for a while and finding nothing unusual at all, he stopped a young man who looked like a scholar. "Excuse me, young sir. What place is this?"
The scholar glanced at him and asked in puzzlement, "Are you not from around here, good sir? This is Ferry Town!"
Ferry Town?
Chen Lin nodded and cupped his hands. "Indeed, I'm not a local. Sorry for the trouble, young sir. Do you happen to know which major city is closest to here?"
The scholar shook his head. "Those are far too distant. Our town is the largest settlement in the area. Where did you come from, good sir?"
