"Wretched beast, reveal your true form at once!"
Chen Lin had barely stepped into the courtyard when he saw the long-nosed Old Monk roaring at the Wooden Chicken again.
He froze, a thoughtful look crossing his face.
"So, you have an accomplice! Die, you fiend!"
Seeing him enter, the Old Monk shouted again, his long nose transforming into a sword that thrust straight at him.
An odd expression crossed Chen Lin's face. "My Buddha is merciful and delivers all living beings. Master, you are attached to appearances!"
The Old Monk stopped dead.
"A sin, a sin. A sin, a sin..."
Just as before, the Old Monk disappeared from his sight in a series of backflips.
Was this actually a scripted scene?
Confusion showed on Chen Lin's face. Before he entered, Liu Ruolan had said nothing about this. She had only told him that the three phrases, "My Buddha is merciful," "He delivers all living beings," and "Master, you are attached to appearances," would each neutralize attacks from different monks in the temple. He had not known which one would work on the Old Monk, so he had said all three together.
They had certainly worked well. It was just that the Old Monk's behavior was rather strange.
He then turned toward the Wooden Chicken, wanting to see whether its behavior was fixed as well.
"What are you staring at, outsider? Hurry up and hand your Road Guide over to Grandpa Chicken, or I'll blast you to death with a fart!"
The Wooden Chicken shot Chen Lin a sidelong glance and snapped irritably.
This left Chen Lin puzzled again. Its words were different from before. The Old Monk seemed to have no memory of their earlier encounter, yet this chicken did.
He could no longer make sense of the situation here.
