The man waiting outside Chen Lin's cave abode immediately came forward with an enthusiastic greeting when he saw him.
Chen Lin glanced at him and said indifferently, "At such a critical moment, why aren't you guarding your own Immortal City, Fellow Daoist Sun? Have you come here on some important business?"
The visitor was Sun Caiyi's uncle, Sun Yushi. Chen Lin had a poor impression of him and wanted little to do with him.
Sun Yushi paid no heed to Chen Lin's coldness. Still beaming, he said, "Elder Chen, you and our Sun Lineage are practically family now. To express our goodwill, the patriarch specifically ordered me to bring you some treasures as my niece's dowry. We hope you'll treat her well."
With that, he took out a Storage Bag.
Chen Lin paused, surprised that the man had come bearing gifts.
Curious, he accepted the Storage Bag and probed it with his divine sense. There were only three things inside: a round bead, a Jade Slip, and a yellowed scroll of paper.
Did so few things really warrant a Storage Bag?
Chen Lin grumbled inwardly.
Still, given the Sun Lineage's standing and strength, these three items could hardly be paltry if they were being offered as a dowry. He took them out to examine them.
Then a look of surprise crossed his face.
Sun Yushi seized the opportunity to speak. "We recently heard that Elder Chen was collecting secret arts capable of producing an earth spiritual root. Our Sun Lineage happened to have one, so we brought it over for you."
He continued, "The bead is called an Earth Spirit Bead. It's a foundational spiritual object for generating a spiritual root. The paper scroll contains an ancient formula for rapidly nurturing and strengthening that root.
