I got up. In the end, after playing with the cigarette for ages, I still hadn't smoked it.
I climbed onto the Harley and followed Yuejian's vehicle. The convoy set off.
The entire way, all I could see around us was desert. There was nothing else in sight. Occasionally, we passed a village, but
those villages were almost all
in ruins, deserted.
Jingmen lay south of Xiangyang. On the map, there was a large reservoir beside Jingmen City. From far away, I could already see
a mass of green over there. Amid this desert,
that oasis-like place stood out so vividly.
"Sister Fang, the place you can see up ahead is Zhanghe Reservoir. The survivor base is right there."
"Mm..."
I answered, watching the patch of green in the distance draw closer. When we were about six or seven kilometers away, Yuejian's voice
came through again.
"Sister Fang, we should run into the patrol squad soon. They'll ask about you. Just tell them the truth. Leave everything else to
me."
"Okay."
I answered and kept following Yuejian's motorcycle, watching for the patrol squad she had mentioned.
Sure enough, less than two minutes later, a voice came through my earpiece.
"Convoy up ahead, stop for inspection. This is the Jingmen Survivor Base patrol team. Please cooperate and stop
the convoy, put down your weapons, and submit to inspection. I repeat,
this is the Jingmen City Survivor..."
I heard a man's voice over the radio, and the vehicles up ahead began to slow down. Naturally, I pulled over too.
Everyone got out and removed their mechs, waiting for the other side to arrive.
They'd taken off their mechs, which made things much easier without their weapons. But as for the weapons all over my body... Forget it. I wouldn't take them off.
