My body knew it instinctively.
The vitality of my cells and the power they held meant my head could even survive on its own for years, detached from my body...
But... thinking about it was still terrifying.
Say I cut off my head right now, grew a new one, then copied the memories from my original brain
into it. I could have a conversation with
myself... Of course, that assumed I wouldn't be scared of seeing a bodiless head every day.
I didn't want to wake up every morning and say "good morning" to my own head hanging over the bed.
After thinking up all sorts of nonsense, I at least felt a little better.
Feeling no guilt over killing was the most frightening part, because it meant... I could kill anyone I wanted now.
I could "kill at will" before, too, but at least my moral limits and reason could still restrain me. The guilt
in my heart was enough
to stop me from slaughtering people indiscriminately.
But things were different now. Maybe after fully turning into a dragon and returning to this form, my body no longer felt as though I'd killed one of my own kind?
Maybe my body no longer saw humans as my own kind at all.
That was one of the things worrying me lately.
After turning back from a dragon, was I still human?
My organs, brain, body tissue... They still looked human on the outside, but wasn't this really a kind of
biological mimicry? My true body
was actually that five-hundred-meter-long dragon.
I looked down at my hands. I couldn't make sense of it... and I wasn't going to let the trouble those people had stirred up keep bothering me.
I'd kill them all... People like that were nothing but trouble left
