The children of the new generation were far more physically capable than ordinary people. Many had special skills that let them imitate other creatures from the moment they were born.
This had also been the case back in the XZ Military Region, but here the trend had gradually spread. Now almost ninety percent of newborns had this ability. It was probably another sign that humanity had adapted to the virus.

Three years ago, someone had started holding a variety show from seven to nine at night. I didn't know who had come up with the idea, but I was all for this kind of entertainment. After all, no one could complain about people taking a break after a long day's work. I went to watch now and then myself.
Thinking of that, I hurriedly put down the plate and knife in my hands, returned to the bedroom, and quickly changed out of my nightclothes. I put on a neat pair of hot pants and a shirt.
I went to the door, picked up the neatly arranged raincoat, and draped it over myself before heading downstairs.

To go downstairs, I'd have to take the elevator. This was the only elevator that could go up to the sixtieth floor. The others stopped at the fifty-ninth.
I pressed the elevator button and watched it slowly rise from the first floor. I put on my headphones, switched on the CD player, and listened to the soothing music as I waited.
It arrived quickly—about half a song later, the elevator had come all the way up from the first floor
