"Reinette..."
"My Lord, you have awakened?"
Hearing the Bound God's call so suddenly, Reinette was stunned for a moment before quickly going before the statue to pray.
In a sense, the Flying Dutchman was truly very strange. Its members were all from the Rose School, and the god they believed in was the Bound God, yet the flag it flew bore the symbol of the God of Death.
This was no different from placing a Buddha statue directly outside a Catholic church's main entrance. Even if there really was a cross inside the church, it did nothing to lessen the blasphemy.
Such behavior would have been utterly absurd in any religion, church, or school, unless...
It had been permitted by a god.
Yes, compared with Catholicism, the Rose School possessed one fundamental advantage: they could genuinely contact their god.
In religions without gods, gods had to be supreme, inviolable, and incapable of bleeding. But the Rose School, which truly had a god, did not see things that way. Everything was determined by their god's will.
The Bound God, Torzunah, had taken a moment to awaken and approve of it. Even if they had doubts, they could not possibly oppose it.
Although Torzunah, as the god of the Rose School, leaned toward the Temperance Faction, he was not some selfless, helpful god.
His decision was mainly made out of consideration for profit.
The benefits were plain to see. A Death-pathway angel whom Adam had high hopes could become Sequence Zero, and who was also his colleague at the Café, was worth doing a favor for.
And what did he need to pay?
In truth, there was no substantial cost at all. At the very least, he suffered no tangible losses.
The Chained pathway itself did not have an especially great need
