When Eugene saw Adam looking oddly conflicted, yet clearly no longer focused on whatever he had been doing, he asked uneasily.

Though he said it had nothing to do with him, Adam seemed to have run into trouble the moment he spoke. That was far too much of a coincidence.

"I ran into someone whose mental state wasn't too good. Never mind that. Let's keep eating."

Elsewhere, because Black Impermanence had appeared late and traveled more slowly than Adam, coupled with Adam's faith in The Nothing's abilities, Adam had never imagined there was still someone behind him he had failed to clean up.
