History
Sun Yu reunites with his junior sect brother Zhang Sheng at the Crimson Tide Sect examination site after ten years. Acting on instructions from his master, True Lord Ning Xi, he brings Li Quan Powder to help Zhang Sheng recover his sealed Dao Power 5.
As examination inspector, Sun Yu explains the revised rules and warns Zhang Sheng that influential families are competing for the Taichu Palace places, including the one Zhang Sheng expected for Wei Yuan. He initially urges Zhang Sheng to consider a later examination, but then helps him prepare Wei Yuan for the Martial Assessment. Sun Yu delivers the Southern Vermilion Bird Unclear Technique and teaches Wei Yuan how to use it 8 9.
When Wei Yuan's Dao and Literary Assessment results raise suspicions, Sun Yu obtains a copy and accompanies Zhang Sheng to question evaluator Daoist Fu Feng. After the examination, Sun Yu confronts a Four Saints Academy scholar over his treatment of Wei Yuan, injuring the scholar's Dao Foundation with alchemical fire 13 14 25.
Personality
Sun Yu is friendly toward Zhang Sheng but cautious about the powerful families involved in the examination. He admits that, as a new disciple, he lacked the courage to resist bullying by noble-family disciples; helping Wei Yuan is a chance to act differently 5 6 9. His caution has limits: he is willing to pressure an examination servant for results and openly threaten a scholar he holds responsible for wronging Wei Yuan 13 25.
