Chi Minghong burst into laughter, but before she could finish, a huge net dropped over them. With no choice, the two had to abandon the car and flee!
Xu Huo made it to a rooftop, while Chi Minghong was knocked off course by an artifact and landed on a balcony several floors below.
One was high above, the other down below. They dodged shots from flying machines as they ran toward the New Xiangyang Energy Plant. More and more pursuers were closing in, and Xu Huo was wondering how to get away when a deafening explosion suddenly erupted ahead and to the side. The shock wave shattered the windows of nearby homes, and an immense wave of heat scorched every inch of the air around them. Even the rooftop offered no protection!
The blast drew the attention of most of the players present. But when they looked back, no flames rose from the site of the explosion. Instead, blue-black smoke billowed out without stopping!
Less than three seconds later, alarms sounded across the city. After a piercing siren, robots stationed throughout the city began broadcasting on a loop: "D-class toxic gas leak. Residents, please shelter indoors, put on your gas masks, and await further instructions from the government. Until then, please do not move around unnecessarily. Thank you for your cooperation."
Xu Huo noticed that the toxic gas leak alerts issued by robots in different locations gave different threat levels. The closer they were to the explosion, the higher the rating. The source of the smoke was right near the New Xiangyang Energy Plant.
It was too soon to tell whether the energy plant had exploded, but a crowd of people—including players—was pouring out of the surrounding area.
