Just Passing Through
Xu Huo blended into the panicked crowd and casually pressed the little girl's head down. "Don't look up at the sky."
Tears streaked the little girl's face. She stared at him through her sobs, trying to speak but unable to get the words out.
Xu Huo said nothing more. He glanced back at the Flower City Players hurrying toward the underground Station nearest the club, then led the girl out of the crowd and used Go to Destination to get away from the city center.
The barrier covering the city center hadn't been generated by an item. It was more like the light-screen barriers Flower City's residents used for shelter, assembled by defensive equipment. When the ground had collapsed, some of the equipment had been damaged, leaving gaps where the barrier couldn't connect properly. It wasn't difficult for Players to get through.
With someone attacking Carroll Field, the situation had already escalated. The Players controlling the scene couldn't carry out their original orders right away, giving others an opening. In those few short seconds, Xu Huo wasn't the only one to break through.
But the Flower City side seemed to react quickly. Once they received orders, the Players stationed around the barrier began slaughtering people indiscriminately.
"Are the people of Flower City all insane?" Even Players couldn't help but feel shaken at the sight of blood running in rivers. They'd only seen anything like this when people were killing Aliens. Who would turn their blades on so many ordinary people for such an absurd reason?
"Why..." The little girl in Xu Huo's arms asked in terror and confusion, as if she couldn't believe any of this was really happening.
"I'll take you back to Welfare Park," Xu Huo said.
"I'm not going back!" the little girl screamed
