"The child wasn't found," Xu Huo said coldly. The two people with high ponytails hadn't handed them just one person.
"That child is already dead." There was a hint of regret in Jiao Cheng's voice. "What they stole was a recording of what the child had suffered before dying... Those people who trafficked children were seriously twisted. They even filmed something like that at the end..."
Xu Huo's expression didn't change. When the person with the high ponytail had said at the hotel that the data they'd stolen was related to experiments on living people, Xu Huo had known they weren't telling the whole truth. It seemed that some of it really was about kidnapping and human trafficking. The lie was that they weren't trying to expose the industry out of a sense of justice. They'd been hired to find a child, and ended up with something unexpected. Of course, it was also possible they'd planned to take advantage of the situation.
"Do you often make deals downtown?"
"So that's what you wanted to ask." Jiao Cheng understood. "There are a lot of players from elsewhere downtown. Even if you make a deal in the open, the surveillance cameras won't sound an alarm as long as both parties' identities check out. On the other hand, if you're sneaking around in the underground passageways, you could easily be mistaken for a dangerous criminal and arrested."
"So if people need to meet face-to-face for a deal, many choose to do it downtown."
This lead didn't seem useful anymore.
After a pause, Xu Huo asked, "Have you decrypted the recording you got?"
"I think it's been decrypted, but I don't have it." Jiao Cheng took out his Communicator, indicating that he could ask someone else for it, but just then he received a
