The sickening crunch of breaking bones mixed with the nauseating, squelching sound of stomping. Many of those present couldn't help looking away.

The other two people who had tried to force their way through the checkpoint were also killed, but the East District player still didn't stop. He repeated the same action expressionlessly, continuing even after the things on the ground had been reduced to mush.

Nobody nearby tried to stop him. The people from the East District watched in silence.

Now, even the Outer District players mixed in with the group, let alone the West District inspectors, felt that something was wrong. But before they could think it through, the player finally stopped.

He shook the stuff off his soles, signaling nearby staff to drag the bodies away. Then he nodded to his companions, indicating that they could continue.

The inspection line kept moving forward. Xu Huo and the five other inspectors in his group had already entered East District territory.

They were still some distance from the East District city center, but from here, they could get a glimpse of the whole city. Like the West District, the East District favored all sorts of flashy electronic projection screens and aerial holograms, but the buildings in the two districts were nothing alike. At a glance, the East District looked like a display cabinet filled with transparent boxes of various colors. Dark metal frames enclosed the boxes, and their walls were transparent on all sides, quite unlike ordinary buildings.

A little farther in stood towering buildings made primarily of silver metal. They came in all kinds of shapes, some like spires, others like ellipsoids. Spaced apart, they surrounded an enormous structure at the center that twisted upward like a giant tree.
