When he returned to the Time Tower from 12th Street, he checked the time once more. Just as he was about to head for 10th Street, he ran into Wang Ling and Long Jianfeng on their way back. The two had fled from a distance, and as they landed on the buildings of 10th Street, two streaks of light followed close behind. After being deflected by the defensive barrier, they swiftly changed direction in midair and came speeding toward them again.
Judging from the way they collided with the defensive barrier, the two Flying Arrows were not particularly high-level Attack Artifacts. However, they made up for it with their speed. Under their relentless assault, one or two would eventually find a gap in the two men's defenses.
"Such a nuisance." Long Jianfeng had carelessly suffered a graze on his shoulder. The wound itself was nothing serious. The problem was that the Artifact was poisoned. He had already taken the Antidote, yet still felt dizzy and light-headed. It seemed the symptoms would not ease anytime soon.
"Splitting up doesn't work, and sticking together doesn't work either." Wang Ling had tried to catch the two arrows, but had failed every time. He flexed his fingers. "They're too slippery."
His gaze swept rapidly across the surroundings, but he never spotted the people pursuing them.
Another Flying Arrow came hurtling toward them. Just as the two men were about to jump down from upstairs, the ground beneath their feet suddenly vanished, sending them pitching forward. They passed straight through the ceiling and fell toward the floor below.
Wang Ling and Long Jianfeng's expressions changed. With a flash, they rushed straight toward the nearest wall, intending to break through it. But when they looked back, they saw Xu Huo standing where they had just fallen.
