"One hundred floors?" Xu Huo's voice rose slightly.
The female player stopped at the corner of the corridor and nodded toward the tightly shut doors ahead. "Those rooms might be empty, or they might be occupied by players. But when everyone gets into the hunting mood at night, hiding in a room is safer. The only question is whether there's anything dangerous inside."
"So the rooms aren't occupied only by guests?" Xu Huo immediately understood what she meant. If the first floor was at the very bottom of the food chain, then the guests staying there couldn't be very strong. C-class players made up at most a third of the people in the banquet hall, and there were almost no A-class players. How dangerous could it get?
"That's probably right," the female player said. "As for who else might be inside besides guests, I'm not sure. I've only heard rumors."
"Anyway, from what I've learned, the risk of opening a random door is about the same as staying out in the corridor."
"If that's the case, what's the point of drawing lots?" Xu Huo narrowed his eyes.
The female player was surprised by his perceptiveness and answered at once, "The person selected gets to open a safe room—in other words, an empty room."
As she spoke, she walked up to the first door and tried it. The handle turned, but the lock didn't budge.
"These are live locks. Anyone can open them from the outside—except for the fish mask chosen by the draw that day. If someone's inside, the person selected by the draw won't be able to open the door."
"So the person selected has to find a safe room before the other players hunt him down. Once he's inside, there's very little chance
