"Gentleman of Light?" Xu Huo pushed her face a little farther away.
"Kind of, but not quite." The painted woman thought for a moment. "Anyway, she smells so nice. I want it."
"Those three probably aren't people you can just rob." Xu Huo gestured for her to calm down.
But the painted woman asked him, "Why rob her? Can't I just ask her for it?"
Xu Huo was stumped. After a pause, he said, "You can have it if you can get it from her."
The painted woman had been ready to act on it right then, but she remembered what he'd just said and sat back down primly. "I'll go tomorrow."
Before lights-out, Xu Huo went back to his room to rest. It wasn't that he didn't want to prepare a room for the painted woman; when they arrived, there had only been one vacant room left. As usual, she'd wanted to squeeze in with him, but in the end, she'd only gotten a table. She curled up on it, looking terribly aggrieved as she gazed at the bed.
"Quit pretending." Xu Huo took out a sleeping bag. At the sight of it, the painted woman immediately jumped onto the bed and shoved him off. "The floor's yours!"
Looking at the "painting" with its eyes closed, pretending to be asleep, Xu Huo could only crawl into the sleeping bag.
He slept fairly well that night. Although the door to the rear carriage had been damaged, the players in Carriage 4 didn't come out and wander around. There was a little commotion in Carriage 3, but it was negligible.
