Xu Huo turned around and saw the woman staring at him intently, as though she wanted to press him for an answer.
Xu Huo thought for a moment. "He should have been a humorous person."
At least, in the Chaos Space of District 014, Carmen Field had come across as carefree and proud, yet somehow not so serious—one might even call him gentle and easygoing.
The woman clearly hadn't expected that answer and hurried to follow up. "I always thought Mr. Carmen was brave, imposing, refined and gentle, modest and reserved, honest and responsible, generous and noble, dashing and handsome, wealthy and talented. I never imagined he was humorous, too. What makes you say that? Could you share your thoughts with me?"
She rattled off a long string of praise for Carmen Field without pausing, all the while opening her personal terminal to take notes.
Xu Huo thought back to the rumors he'd heard after getting off the train. "Didn't people say he liked playing around with children? If he could make kids laugh, he must have had a good sense of humor."
His overly dry reasoning sounded insincere, but the young woman nodded repeatedly, deeply convinced. "Mr. Carmen was kind to everyone. Even though he didn't get along with his family, he never forgot to look after the younger generation. The younger members of the Field family all respected and adored him."
"He really was a perfect man."
"Too bad there'll never be another like him. And I was born too late. I'd gladly die just to see Mr. Carmen in person."
Her words struck a chord with two or three of the other women in the car. They crowded around and began imagining all the ways Mr. Carmen must have been gentle and wonderful.
Carmen Field was a
