The others nearby were no better off. Lou Shang was stabbing his own eyes, Fu Kuan was strangling himself, and Zhu Nuo had been badly wounded and was already unconscious. Her medical kit was working automatically, stitching up the wound on her chest.
Being temporarily protected by their devices did not mean they were safe. Gene and Fu Kuan, who were relatively weaker, already looked somewhat vacant, drool running from the corners of their mouths. Given enough time, their minds would probably be killed, just like those who had died in the Wisteria instance.
Fortunately, the "Gravity Field" weakened the surrounding mental power. Still, Xu Huo could not get too close to them. He took out Gene's ring-shaped device and, after several attempts, finally opened a passage in one direction.
After shutting off the "Gravity Field," he brought them all out.
This time, they arrived in the actual kitchen.

As soon as they emerged, they collapsed onto the floor, some vomiting, others coughing up blood. Tears and snot covered their faces, and they seemed as fragile as newborn infants.

That was the most reasonable explanation. Mental Evolvers all had something wrong with them to some degree. Otherwise, why would someone like Carmen Field create such a place... a place that stripped people of all hope of living?
