I Want to See the Mayor
"If you want me to shut you up, keep talking." Gao Xiaoyan was nowhere near as friendly toward him as she had been before they reached the training base.
"You're pretty good at burning bridges once you've crossed them." Xu Huo didn't care about her threat. "What if I told you I planted a time bomb in Ren Man's Spiritual World? With that in place, he won't just stop evolving—repeatedly using his mental powers will make him collapse..."
Watching the numbers above the heads of the people in the vehicle change rapidly, he continued, "Would you change your mind?"
Gao Xiaoyan paused, then frowned at him. "Are you messing with me?"
Xu Huo leaned back in his seat, relaxed. "You can take a gamble. What I said might just be a lie I made up on the spot."
Gao Xiaoyan's expression darkened. There was no way to tell just by looking at him what the man was feeling. Or perhaps the expressions and posture she could read were still just an act.
The man sitting beside Xu Huo stuck a Smiley badge on him, then asked, "You're lying. You made that up to buy time and look for a chance to escape."
"Whatever you say." Xu Huo sounded a little dismissive. When the smiley on the badge didn't change, he paused, then tried a different story. "But I really did tamper with Ren Man."
The man put away his item and looked at Gao Xiaoyan. "The item didn't work on him."
Gao Xiaoyan knew when to yield. "Let Ren Man go, and I'll let you go."
"You still don't understand what I mean." Xu Huo smiled. "I can leave whenever I want. I'm just an extremely curious person. Don't believe me? Ask Teacher Ai."
